Sentinel Heroes is a free-to-play strategy RPG that features simple, but impressive gameplay and decent graphics. It incorporates the mechanics of strategy game as well as classic elements of other online role-playing games. Players can recruit heroes, build a dream team and save Orson Land from the corrupting force of Ozymandias.
When starting the game for the first time, players are required to pick one of the 3 main hero classes, namely, Phantom Assassin, Sacred Warrior and Silencer. These three classes represent the three main types of heroes – Dexterity, Strength and Intelligence that players can get in the game. For those who prefer a no-nonsense, in-your-face action, Sacred Warrior is the way to go, as a natural born melee fighter who literally gives their life to gain combat advantage. If you want to defeat your enemies by surprise, the Phantom Assassin fits the bill, with his ability Blink Strike that deals stabs in the back. The Silencer becomes stronger and stronger as the enemies fall down one by one by drawing power from dead enemies. Of course, since you’re just starting out, it’s better to just choose a hero that you think looks cool. Like me, I chose the most handsome one, the Silencer.
Strategic Battle Formation
In Sentinel Heroes, players have access to hundreds of heroes but are allowed to bring 5 ones at most into battle. The battle formation is a 3×3 grid. So it requires tactical planning to pick five heroes out of tons of options and place them in the right position of the right battle formation. The heroes in the first row attack first and then come the ones in second and third row. So the general rule is to put strength heroes in front to bear the damage and dexterity heroes and intelligence heroes in the back row to deal more damages. As a strategic game, Sentinel Heroes allows players to come up with a personalized strategy.
Challenging PvE and PvP
Sentinel Heroes features both story-driven fights and tough PvP match-ups in the arena. Once into the game, the player is thrown straight into some quests through which players can defeat scourge minions to retrieve the lost territory and get lots of rewards. When players reach lvl 10, they are allowed to enter the Arena to challenge or accept duels to strike for high rank while gaining arena credits. Players are also allowed to challenge the Dungeons and claim their throne in the Knockout. The rewards include gems, heroes, Eclosion materials, runes, heroes and etc.
Hero and Equipment Enhancement Mechanics
Another thing that would catch anyone’s attention when playing Sentinel Heroes is that the game provides multiple mechanics to enhance both heroes and equipment.
In Sentinel Heroes, Players are allowed to compound the same hero to boost the target hero in basic attributes. A common hero compounded to + 10 can even be stronger than an uncompounded rare hero. Eclosion can make a card +10 or above evolve into a higher stage which will largely boost the attributes and skill effects of the hero at the same time. For example, a white Robin Bear +10 will become a green Robin Bear after Eclosion.
Speaking of equipment, Sentinel Heroes also incorporates a fun Forging and Strengthening system that is really easy to learn. Players can craft equipment by simply gathering required materials in the recipe scrolls. The Strengthening mechanic is even easier; players only need some gold to strengthen their equipments.
There are also other feature systems like the Talent System and Auction House
Players will get their first talent point when they level up to lvl 15 and then can use the talent point to learn their favorite talent. It is worth mentioning that the Talent System is extremely powerful, which includes not only normal attribute boost talents, but also talents that can boost any feature in the game, such as the talent “Against the Clock” that can shorten stamina regeneration time, “Speech Works” that can increase the success ratio of recruiting, and “Beyond the Skyline” that allows player to break the compounding bottleneck. The only thing that I’m unsatisfied with the Talent System is that talent points are never enough. The more talent points you get, the more talents you can learn.
When you’re stuck with multiple tasks, why not go to the Auction House to see if there’s something you need? You also can consign excessive materials and equipments in the Auction House to make some money. The Auction House is run by the business-minded goblins. You can imagine how smoothly and stably it runs. Visiting the Auction House frequently will save you a lot of time. Keep in mind that “Time is gold” (from the “Goblins’ Secrets of Making Money”)
So far Sentinel Heroes is really going in positive direction. There’re also lots of interesting tiny details in the game, such as when you’re trying to save some story NPCs, they often get caught in the bags that you can click on for an interesting dialogue. Sentinel Heroes also features some automation allowing players to easily play the game while doing something else to help ease the grind aspect.
Overall, Sentinel Heroes is a free strategic MMOPG worth a try.
