1byone Plasma Bluetooth Speaker Review

Music has always been a very big part of my life, and with the inclusion of Malta into Spotify’s available countries, it has become an even bigger part. I now listen to music almost 24/7; on the bus, on my way to work, when I game, before I sleep and sometimes even when I sleep, leaving the music player on just for the sake of music. Thus I tend to be a little picky when purchasing smartphones or speakers, since I must ensure that they are of the best quality possible. While not the cream of the crop in terms of sound, the 1byone Bluetooth speaker has really impressed me, and anyone intrigued by this review should check it out.

The 1byone Plasma Speaker is, as the name also implies, a Bluetooth speaker, which means that it connects to devices wirelessly, meaning you can connect your smartphone or your home computer to it. I do not have a smart TV so I am not sure whether it can connect to it or not, but given how easy the connection set up is I would not be surprised if the speaker is in fact compatible with the TV. As mentioned, connecting the thing is extremely easy, as shown on the instruction booklet included with the gadget. You plug the speaker in with a USB cable, also provided in the box, to a power source, which could either be a direct USB charger or a mobile phone plug-in charger with a USB slot, which is what I do. Upon plugging in the thing, it begins shooting plasma rays along its spherical top, bringing the whole audience in awe. You then only need to switch on Bluetooth on your desired playback device and connect to the speaker, which will be shown on your available Bluetooth devices in mere seconds. That’s it! Very simple right? Indeed it is. If there ever was a definition for plug and play, this speaker resembles it to the full.

Once connected you can start pumping in the tunes from the get go, and even though it takes a second or two for the music to start exiting from the speaker, there is no real latency between the devices, only that lag for the music to start. There is no static noise or stuff which may come from it being connected solely to a power switch, which makes the music very pleasant indeed.

The Plasma shooting off inside the glass sphere on the top of the speaker can also be interacted with, since upon touching the sphere, a light ray will shoot towards your finger. This is obviously harmless, but spectacular to watch. Multiple light rays can also be shot from the core of the sphere, meaning that you can put your whole hand against the ball and five rays will be attacking the space just underneath your fingers. Moving your fingers with the music along the surface of the sphere will also see the rays dancing around as if they were pre-programmed to do so.

While the speaker is definitely awesome, it does have some shortcomings. The first thing which comes to mind is the fact that it is not wireless. I honestly expected a Bluetooth speaker to be taken wherever you need, given it has enough charge, but the fact that it only turns on when a USB cable is plugged in is a little awkward. It does not diminish the quality of the effects or the sound, but it is a little bothersome. Another problem with the speaker is that even though there is a mode, triggered from the back panel of the speaker, which should set the light to match the beat of the music, I always saw the exact same patterns no matter how many times I turned off that switch. It is not something deal breaking, but since it does say so on the box I was a little let down by this as well.

As mentioned before, the quality of the speakers is not the level of Bose or Siberia Headsets, but as a fancy speaker with special effects, it definitely does the job. It is not very expensive either, so it will make for a very nice addition to your living room. It also makes for a great gift for someone who loves lights or music, or both like me!
