Britain’s largest independent videogame creator begins a yearlong celebration for the 15th anniversary of the world’s most played massively multiplayer online game, RuneScape
JAGEX, headquartered in Cambridge, today begins a celebration set to last throughout the 15th anniversary year of the world’s most played videogame, RuneScape. From humble beginnings, RuneScape developed into an internationally loved videogame. The growth of RuneScape allowed the company, initially set up by two brothers, to grow and become one of the country’s most successful developers.
Employing thousands of staff since its inception, RuneScape has been a part of the lives of an incredible and dedicated community of fans, who will be invited to take part in the celebrations across the year. With over 245 million accounts created since launch, RuneScape is widely accepted to be the most played massively multiplayer online games in videogame history. Popular because of its setting and Python-esque humour, RuneScape is a uniquely British creation, and one that inspires devotion around the world, from Los Angeles to Shanghai, and from Santiago (Chile) to Sydney, Australia.
The first event takes place in February, with the launch of a documentary detailing the rise of RuneScape, JAGEX, and its creators. It looks both back on the game’s greatest achievements, and forward to a new generation of players.
