Every year brings at least one fantastic game and there have been some truly amazing years packed with games that are considered absolute classics today except for 2014 and boring titles like Call of Duty: Ghosts of War, Destiny and couple of other.
In 2007 for example we got Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, Bioschock, Call of Duty 4 and Portal. No gamer will ever forget these cult classics, especially Bioschock, a beautiful, yet brutal and disquieting game that made you feel. Before that in 1998 the gaming industry gave us Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid and freaking Starcraft, a game still played at tournaments.
We don’t know yet if 2017 will be the year that gave us some new classics to be played for billions of hours in the next decade, but judging from the first quarter, it will be an amazing year. It already is. Just look at all those new releases. And I don’t know if you are into this, but the BRC Sky Poker no deposit bonus this year is smoking hot.
Usually some of the best games of the year come out during the biggest holidays. This is because video gaming companies want to take advantage of the periods when people spend money on gifts. It’s the same with blockbuster movies, you release them when the kids are out of school during the summer.
But, it seems that this logic has died in 2017. Surely there will be some good releases left for the final quarter around Christmas. Plus, November is usually reserved for Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty sequels.
But, now we are more used to getting the good games in months like February (Burnout Paradise) or August (Saints Row). It seems that some of the publishers realized that releasing a game when there is no competition might do better… and it did.
This new trend has reached a logical conclusion in 2017. It’s not even summer and already the market is flooded with some amazing, new video games on all kinds of platforms. There are so many to play even for the most hardcore gamers. Just look at all the new titles:
- Resident Evil 7 (which made the series cool again)
- Yakuza 0
- For Honor
- Torment: Tides of Numenera
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (possibly the game of the year)
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Nier: Automata
- Night in the Woods (horror game of the year)
- Persona 5
- Mass Effect: Andromeda and more.
By December, this list will have a dozen new amazing releases. We know that a new Star Wars Battlefront will be coming out, as well as the heavy-hitter Super Mario Odyssey. The most exciting thing about all of this is the refreshing change of pace. Instead of spending the year discussing about one or two great titles, by December each year our game of the year discussions will be the most difficult ever.
