This is a great time to be a superhero fan. Not only are there multiple films coming out each year from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now the DC Extended Universe, everybody’s favourite world-savers are also appearing in some of the most advanced console games ever made. And there is plenty still to look forward to in 2017. Injustice 2 has just been released, along with Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 and Spider-Man PS4 both on the horizon.
Injustice 2 (see video below) has just hit the shelves and already has a highly impressive score of 87% on Metacritic, with one reviewer describing the game as a “fantastic tour of DC Comics’ ridiculous multiverse.” The game features a massive range of 29 playable characters from the well-known heroes like Superman and Batman, to classic villains including Scarecrow and Deadshot. This latest release from NetherRealm Studios could well be one of the best fighting games ever made, and will help push the upcoming movies from DC Extended Universe.
A lot of the DC Comic characters will soon be made into online slot games as well, since Playtech has struck a deal with the studio. Superhero slots are already popular among gamblers, and existing games such as Blast Boom Bang have a retro theme that harks back to the classic comics of old. When playing the title at Vegas Casino, players have the opportunity to become bitcoin VIP’s by playing as often as they can. This means that they will be in contention for rewards such as exclusive deposit bonuses.
In the past, players enjoyed the Spider-Man slot from Playtech, but this has been discontinued. Fans shouldn’t worry too much, though. With a brand new big screen Spider-Man adventure set to hit cinemas this summer, Marvel is branching out to wider audiences by releasing a console game soon after. Spider-Man: Homecoming will feature a young Peter Parker as he is mentored into the role of Spider-Man by Iron Man. The PlayStation 4 title will not be based on John Watts’ forthcoming film, though, and will give players an entirely separate storyline featuring an already well-established and skilled web slinger. The vice president of games innovation at Marvel has even gone as far as to say that this upcoming open-world epic developed by Insomniac Games will be one of the “best games on the platform.”
The good news doesn’t end there. TT Games are releasing a sequel to Lego Marvel Superheroes (see trailer above) in November, which promises to be bigger, better, and crazier than any of the two previous instalments in the Lego Marvel franchise. Players will be able to take control of the Lego Avengers, Lego Guardians of the Galaxy, and Lego X-Men among many others.
With all these great games coming about thanks to the renewed love of superheroes brought about by MCU and DCEU, there could be even more great titles on the horizon in the future. In fact, Marvel has already teased that an Avengers video game is in development with Square Enix. The publishing company is responsible for great titles like Tomb Raider and Hitman, and a game with the likes of Iron Man and the Hulk in could be amazing.
