Since its release in April, Jalopy has enjoyed overall very positive reviews on Steam and has a huge installed fan base. Developer Greg Pryjmachuk has barely been away from his computer since then and has been busy adding new updates and features. The latest build which is officially known as the Hungary update, opens up the border crossing for you to explore a whole new country. But this update is much, much more than that. Explore new routes and territory in your trusty rust bucket Laika 601 and enjoy the benefit of this substantial update with new features and fixes.
New spray paints are available from your Laika dealership so without need to visit a body shop you can customise your Laika 601 both inside and out. You can mix colours to get exactly the shade you want – whatever your taste – and there is even a metallic finish available. And if you’re a person of real taste and class you can choose from a range of decals from go-faster stripes and flames to a checkerboard roof! Nice!! We will be closely monitoring the feedback of the decal system whilst in Early Access with a view to further expansion in the full release.
With the addition of a new country raising the current number to three, Greg has made subtle changes to each territory so that the player truly feels like they’re in a different country. One of these is the use of branding on items such as cigarettes, wine and even sausages. Using player feedback we have also added an odometer to keep track of how far you’ve travelled in this new expanded territory, a big request from many Jalopy gamers. The scavenging game mechanic has also been expanded – abandoned cars now spawn more dynamically and eagle-eyed drivers will be the first to spot valuable parts. Scrapyards have been added on selected routes, fix the gate and take the opportunity to search for spare parts.
There are other UI improvements too. The games menu will now remember where you last saved and create a background image to the match the next area creating visual variation and a reminder of where you are!
Choose from some excellent new tracks from musician Jeremy to listen to on the radio or select the playlist from the main menu.
The car manual has also been through an overhaul to address the texture images and improve functionality. You can also check the weight limit of your car and remove excess items from the trunk if needs be.
As the uncle has been causing some issues, we’ve put him on garden leave for now. We hope he will re-join the journey at some point in the future but for now he’ll be doing what he does best and walking you through the tutorial and then leaving you to explore the open road unhindered.
This is a major update to Jalopy and we have included here the major chunks but many more minor fixes and additions have also been incorporated and a full list can be found on the Steam page and the Excalibur website. As always both the team at Excalibur and Greg will be closely monitoring the forums for player feedback so we encourage the community to send us their views. It has been invaluable so far in the maturing of this exciting quirky driving simulation.
