With the start of 2015 brings more games which is always good news and with the next gen consoles now in full circulation there seems to be a lot to look forward too so with no more pause for thought lets jump in too ten RPG’s too look forward too.
Starting at ten but by no means it being a sub-par game hyper dimension Noire Goddess Black Heart is released this month, February 27th on the PS Vita. Hyper dimension is unlike its predecessors in the series by quite a lot as the story takes place in a world known as Gamarket instead of the usual Gamindustri. Also the gameplay has changed to a tactical RPG with chibi versions of the characters and on-top of that the maps themselves have a lot of character themselves. With the maps constantly changing and the use of features such as moving platforms and rail carts there can be a lot of interesting things too see in this soon to be released game. The game still has its original characters from the previous games however with an extra eighteen playable characters that are parodies in various forms.
Moving onto number nine – Xenoblade chronicles. Already released for the wii in 2011 and is due to be released on the Nintendo 3DS on April 2nd. Although a re-release for an old game Xenoblade chronicles is an open world RPG. Unfortunately this port will not be available for the old 3DS and only available for the new 3Ds being re-leased this month.
At eight Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea which is the third instalment in the Dusk storyline of the series which takes place six years after Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky, which revolves around two alchemists – Shallistera who tries to save her village from demise and Shallotte Elminus as she tries to become a proper alchemist. The story will focus on both the individual aspects of these characters along with their shared experiences as the player plays through the game. The game will have bigger fields than most games of the series and a new goal management system called life task system which tells the player what tasks they should be doing at that point and replaces the time limit system seen in previous games.
At seven its Toukiden: The Age of Demons Kiwami an enhanced edition of Toukiden: The Age of Demons – a third person monster hunting game set in fantasy medieval Japanese times were warriors known as mononofu fight these monsters known as oni. The enhanced edition adds twice as many demons too hunt and dominate as well as extended story and new equipment such as naginta and Kanabo – two new firearms. Also new character abilities will be introduced. To be realised on PSP and PS Vita and PS4 for 31st march with cross save and multiplayer between the vita and PS4 platforms.
At six its Final Fantasy Type O releasing for the Xbox One, Playstation 4. Set in Orience a land divided between four nations each with its own crystal the story starts with the forces of militesi (one of the crystal states) invading Rubrum (another one of the crystal states) , originally released for the PSP in japan in 2011 the HD re-make move away from the turn based RPG in too real-time combat. Focused on the events of class zero the HD version will have all the downloadable content to be unlocked in the game and will have its own DLC.
AT five its Final Fantasy XV, a struggle on were too put these too on the list however since Type O is a re-make and XV is the newest instalment in the series it had to be higher. Also keeping in with Type O’s movement to a real time combat system it however has a more open world environment. Set in a more modern environment just as a truce is declared between two states Niflheim and Lucis. However this does not go as planned and one of Niflheim invade Lucis. Taking control of Noctis and his friends who just escape this you are then forced to try and fight back too re-take their home crystal. Including environmental settings such as changing weather, day and night and the need to sleep should add interesting depth into the franchise.
At four it’s the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt released on the 19th may for all platforms – Xboxone, PC and PlayStation 4. An action RPG it is set in a medieval fantasy world and is the conclusion of the witcher Geralt of Rivias story. Continuing directly from the previous instalment the story starts when a mysteries army known as the wild hunt invade and torch the northern kingdoms without mercy and it seems Geralt is the only one capable of stopping them. With an upgraded combat system and the ability too fight in water and on horseback and map that is said to be twenty percent bigger than Skyrim it is sure to be a great experience too look forward too.
Now into the top three it’s Persona 5 at number 3, being a Sony exclusive it will be realeased for PlayStation 3 and 4. Keeping too its traditional setting you play as a Protagonist who has been transferred to a new high school. Feeling suppressed by his environment he does what every high school student does and becomes a cat burglar known as The Phantom. With help from two other students and a shape shifting cat he carries out heists bumping into mysteries phenomenon’s on the way. The gameplay is traditional however represented in a new way. Playing as more of a villain from the outset will be interesting and refreshing take and knowing Katsura Hashino is sure to be an experience.
At two its Bloodborne exclusive for the playstation 4, an action RPG similar too darksouls and directed by the creator Hidetaka Miyazaki due to be released for March 27th. Based in a gothic ruined city called Yharnam which is said to hold a cure for anything. But, in good gamey fashion once arriving there it becomes clear that it is instead populated by vicious monsters baying for blood. The game will feature similar combat too Darksouls but at a faster pace with additions such as the ability to get health back after quickly striking back. Also weapons will have different “forms” such as a cleaver which can either be used in its original form too take enemies in small cramped spaces efficiently or in its second form as an extended blade too take care of a crowd.
And finally the most anticipate game for me its Bravely Second the sequel of Bravely Default realising on 23rd April on the 3DS. The game will take place in the same world as Bravely Default after several years. A bunch of new characters will be introduced such as Magnolia Arch who is from the world’s moon and the last of her kind after demons attacked her home village. However some old faces will be there too such as Edea Lee who is now Leader of Imperial Guard Knights. The game also features new jobs such as the Guardian – with the ability to use spiritual energy for massive damage and the Exorcist who can make things un-happen. By this it means make everything for a character revert to where it was several turns back. There also seems to be more choice introduced with the Barter- sub scenario which will have you picking sides in the game and pushing you down specific narrative paths.
All in all 2015 looks like a great year for gaming with all these RPGs it’s going to be tough deciding on which is going to eat on your time- grill yourself with torturous difficulty on Bloodborne, become a villainous youth in persona 5 or even just enjoy a nice story with Second Default. Either way this year no-one will be stuck for something not to play.
