Hewson Consultants, a name synonymous with the greatest games of the 1980s and early 90s is delighted to announce its return to videogame development and publishing as a winning recipient of the UK Games Fund.
With its first title in 25 years, MeCHiNus, in the early stages of production, key talent has been secured with the addition of CEO & Creative Director Rob Hewson and Technical Director John Ogden joining the company.
MeCHiNus is a clockwork puzzle-platform game set in a captivating mechanical ecosystem where you physically interface with elaborate, evolved mechanisms to manipulate the steampunk environment and bend it to your will. Beginning as just another cog in the machine, you will soon find yourself on a quest for companionship which will lead you to the innermost secrets of MeCHiNus itself.
Rob Hewson previously served as Senior Creative Designer for Blade Interactive and Dark Energy Digital, before delighting fans around the world as Game Director at TT Fusion with a series of chart topping LEGO games. With over fifteen year’s experience of games development, John Ogden joins from the Foundry, having worked at DED and Blade. John also previously worked at the BBC, having led development on core technologies for iPlayer, BBC Sport and 3D graphics applications.
“The UK videogames industry was born from the work of talented individuals, and I had the privilege of playing a part in those pioneering years,” said Andrew Hewson, Chairman and Finance Director, Hewson Consultants Ltd. He continued, “Today we once again see small, innovative British teams delivering original, highly creative games and it is pleasing to see initiatives like the UK Games Fund supporting their work.”
The trio has more than 45 years of game industry experience between them and have produced hundreds of games.

With Hewson Consultants first videogame project MeCHiNus in production, the company’s highly anticipated book, Hints and Tips for Videogame Pioneers is also due for release in 2016.
In the 80s and 90s Hewson Consultants and, its successor, 21st Century Entertainment forged reputations for releasing some of the most innovative and highly polished titles of their era by discovering and fostering development legends like Andrew Braybrook (Uridium, Paradroid), Steve Turner (Avalon, Quazatron), Raff Cecco (Exolon, Cybernoid), John Phillips (Nebulus), Dominic Robinson (Zynaps) and the founders of DICE who created Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Illusions.
