As NCSOFT’s Blade & Soul Esports approaches the World Championships in South Korea this 20-29th September, two important events are rapidly coming up. First, at gamescom, the European Regional Championship will take place on 24th August at the ESL Arena on the Alpha stage. The top 8 teams in Europe will compete throughout the day in the mixed 1v1 and 3v3 format, with the finals culminating at ~21:00 CEST. The top-seeded European teams “Bad Intentions”, “xdddd”, and “Ugly Intentions” had strong showings at tournaments earlier this year, and will be on even footing leading up to the European Championship.
For PAX West attendees, the North American Regional Championship will take place on 3rd September, at the PAX Arena. Matches will be all day with the finals beginning start at ~5 p.m. PDT. After a dominant performance at qualifiers and the wildcard tournament, the top-seeded North American team “Hurricane” will be looking to secure their spot for the World Championships, but face stiff competition from other top seeds: “Guardian” and “OuO”.
For the winners at each Regional Championship, not only will they get their share of the $340,000+ prize purse raised by Blade & Soul fans via purchasing a special in-game item, but the top two teams in each region will get an invitation to the World Championships in South Korea from 20-29th September where, for the first time in the game’s history, representatives from Europe and North America will compete against seven other global territories to determine which team is truly the best in the world.
Blade & Soul PVP is a fast-paced competition between teams of three. Players have one of nine character classes available to them, each with their own unique playstyle. There are no auto-target player abilities, so a high degree of skill is needed to pull off the deadly combos that can quickly burst down opponents or lightning quick reflexes to escape and out-sustain enemies. 1v1 fights are straightforward affairs – two players enter, one player leaves. The 3v3 fights bring an entirely new level of complexity to the system as only one player is active at a time, but with a limited number of assists and tag-outs, a high degree of skill, strategy and communication is needed to outlast and outwit opponents.
All PVP tournaments will be livestreamed on twitch.tv/bladeandsoul during the above times, for the World Championships, details and stream times are available here: http://bns.plaync.com/esports/wc/2017/intro/index?locale=en-US
