Goetia – a ghostly point and click adventure game from a French Sushee studio, successfully funded on Kickstarter, 70 hours before the campaign end!
It wasn’t easy but adventure games fans have once again proven that the genre is alive, well and there still are gamers out there willing to play a good, old point and click. Especially if developers behind it are able to offer not only a gripping story but also some unique gameplay mechanics.
And that’s exactly what you can count on in Goetia, which has just been successfully funded on Kickstarter, reaching its initial $30000 goal 70 hours before the campaign end: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/438269196/goetia
Getting to this point has definitely not been easy for developers behind the title. In fact it was a struggle with tons of positive coverage from the biggest gaming media out there like VG247, PC Gamer, Eurogamers from different countries or PC Games and gamers still being sceptic about financially supporting the project, till the very last moment almost. Sadly the fact that quite a lot of successfully funded projects never launch, affects gamers’ decision about supporting next ones. Goetia’s campaign was no different and made developers write an open letter to players:
A couple of times some very popular & successful Kickstarter projects with famous developers behind them failed because of a poorly functioning team, the final game not really delivering what was promised during the campaign or even a complete cancelation of a project. There are as many reasons as games funded on the platform and never really launched. And we understand that it’s very disappointing for those backers, who really loved the project, believed in it and now feel that they have been tricked. So some of you might consider that backing a game that is developed by a small indie team, for whom it’s the first project, is a big risk.
But in fact it’s exactly why we WILL finish our game. Because we’re a small indie team. Working, living and breathing only for Abigail & Blackwood Manor. Because it’s our own project. The biggest, the first one like that. Also because we are supported by CNC & that obliges us to launch the game. Also because we simply do believe in ourselves and in the game we are creating.
90% of art & 40% of game development is already done. We have no choice but keep on going. We’ve already put a lot of time & energy in creating Goetia and we will finish it. And Kickstarter is a great boost for us, allowing us to polish the game and convince publishers that there’s already interest in Goetia. So believe us that there’s no other choice for us than finishing our game.
Also the fact that we don’t want to be haunted by Abigail for ages is of importance here too. She’s a really nice girl, but when angry, she can be really creepy. So having the opportunity we’d like to thank to all of you, who supported our Kickstarter campaign by backing and spreading the word about it. And we can promise that we will do all we can to deliver the final game to you that will simply be fun to play!
