AK Racing Player Gaming Chair Black/Orange Review
Being a massive gamer getting hold of a gaming chair, has to be top of my list, I have been lucky and managed to score my first chair from Element Gaming, see review link below, it’s a budget gaming chair at around £89.99, I gave the chair top mark 5/5, because budget does not mean crap, this chair is absolutely amazing and for anyone on a budget, this is something you should go out and purchase.
Now it’s time for the upgrade RRP €289.99 which is around £229.99 (Overclockers 20.10.2015) and thanks to AKRacing a company based in China, who agreed to give us a review unit, of one of their Player Gaming Chairs http://akracingeurope.eu/product/ak-k6014-bo/.
There are other companies out there, that do a similar chair, the UK based firm ‘GT Omega’ and ‘DX Racer’ in America, just to name a few. We decided to request a chair from AKRacing thanks to ‘Overclockers’, who Recommended the franchise after I personally purchased my new MSI GS70 off them, so off I trotted.

The first thing you will notice about this chair, is not the chair, but the box, a damn heavy box, not to say its also a huge box, 88x68x38cm with a gross weight of 25kg and a net weight of 22kg, taking this upstairs was a feat of strength, as I took one step at a time, had a glass of water and took the next step “Kidding of coarse” took all the steps then had a glass of water. I did ask the delivery man, if he would take it up stair, he took a look at the stairs looked at me and said… “Joking right, I just deliver”, slacker, then again, don’t blame him.
Opening up the box, the first thing on top is the shiny black metal wheel base, with the Element Gaming Chair you got ‘powder coated arms and base’ instead, this base is heavy and looks the part. Under the base you will see the back cushion and attached to that is the seat and arm rests. After taking out the biggest parts, you will find a box that contains, one of the best looking instruction papers I have ever received when getting any chair, regardless of the price I paid for it. Also in the box, you get 2 Allen keys (Hex) 3 Plastic side panels 3 screws and the wheels. Other than the box, you also get the AK Racing Neck rest and lumber cushion to help with posture.
Putting the chair together is fiddly, but follow the instructions correctly, it will not take you too long to get it up and ready for you to game on, took me about 30mins, I found the hardest part was attaching the back to the base, other than that, everything was a walk in the park.
Basic assembly is
- Attach the wheels and the gas cylinder to the wheel Base.
- Attach the Back Rest to the Seat along with the plastic trims that cover the bolts
- Attach the chair lifting mechanism to the bottom of the Seat
- Attach the wheel Base to the seat and Tadaa, it’s all done
Now we at the point where we look at the final product, what do I think of it, does my fat arse fit comfortably in the gap that is provided? I am 5ft 4inches, 36inch waist and around 13stone 9lbs.
Well the stitching looks great, not a single stitch missed or out of place, the colours were bright, not faded, the faux leather looks and feels rather impressive considering Faux leather is actually an artificial or synthetic leather substitute. The chair has a full metal frame, ‘No wonder it’s so heavy’ with plastic being used for the trims on the side of the chair, handles, wheels and arm rests. AK Racing logo is on everything from the back seat to the neck rest and lumber cushion, there is nothing on the back of the seat, to indicate the brand, (something that could be added to future designed chairs)
Does my fat arse fit comfortably in the gap provided? Well, it does, fits rather snugly, thanks. The seat, I think it might be memory foam, as it feels like the same material used within my bed mattress, after reaching out to AK Racing, we found out that the foam is simply shaped foam.
The foam is not super soft and you will not feel yourself sliding into the foam and disappearing, it will more or less supports your weight. This chair is actually the first gaming chair to offer a perfectly straight back position, for myself. I have had many chairs, all have made claims, to be good for posture, non had a straight back, event the Element Gaming Chair, did not offer a straight back, I even had to purchase a neck rest and lumber cushion, to make the seat more comfortable for long play sessions and back support. (Something I recommended Element Gaming add to their chairs asap).
The chair also has adjustable arm rests, which is fantastic for gaming, as you are able to rest your arms comfortably, in a perfect position for those long sessions of gaming, removing any discomfort. I also found that the armrests themselves are made of some sort of foam with a rubberized coating to protect it, does not give much flex or cushioning, but the way it’s been designed, you will find that arms fit comfortably in the groves.
Another added extra is the adjustable back rest going up to 180 degree’s, which is very handy for watching movies on the ceiling or some adult education opportunities.
The main questions I would be asking myself before buying such an expensive chair, can I afford one, will my partner kick my arse if I purchased one, if you living at home, do my parents love me enough to buy one, or how many weeks doing this damn paper round or pocket money will it take to afford one. But most of all, is this chair worth my hard earned attention and money?
Well to answer that it’s all down to personal preference and money, if I was not rich, then I would simply go for the Element Gaming Chair and purchase a neck rest and lumber cushion, but if I was able to save or make enough money then I would, damn right buy one of these chairs. This chair is a massive improvement over the cheaper alternative, with its improved cushioning, adjustable arm rests, 180 degrees back rest, full metal frame and its racing style design.
To score this any less than max marks would be an insult, this is an improvement over the Element Gaming Chair, as you would expect for the price, long gaming sessions are a joy to behold, the adult education time is very fun, and your butt will get the ultimate comfort.
Small update added 03.11.2015, if you have a cat, DO NOT ALLOW, the little creature on to your leather chair.. he/she will ruin it. If you are yet to purchase a chair and have very sneaky cats, then I would like to recommend purchasing the material/fabric version chair instead. Same quality, same functions, cheaper and will take a lot more battering from the pesky cats of yours.
