Who amongst us hasn’t spent hours at a time daydreaming about pulling the perfect heist that will allow you to leave your troubles behind and sail off into the sunset? Whether it’s robbing your local grocer or crafting a series of Vegas casino robberies, it’s hard to deny the appeal of pulling that one perfect job that will let you never have to worry about money again, as you spend the rest of your life sipping Piña Coladas at some remote beach somewhere in the Caribbean with a beautiful woman by your side.
While that kind of money is certainly worth fantasizing over, for most the real thrill of the fantasy is managing to pull off the perfect sting. To create a foolproof plan that considers every detail and execute it with flawless timing, letting you leave with the bounty without anyone ever knowing what really went down.
With the highly anticipated heist movie Baby Driver out in the cinemas this week, we thought we’d take a look at some of the best video games of all genres that allow you to enact your very own heist without putting your liberty or life at risk.
Queen of Thieves
Telling the story of 3 sisters attempting to find their long believed dead mother – the titular Queen of Thieves – this charming visual novel game will take you through a series of daring robbery missions which will require the sisters to team up in order to pull off successfully.
Using easy to learn RPG gameplay and combat, the player will play as the sisters and go on a series of quests to rob the rich in order to get more clues regarding their mother’s location from a mysterious patron. Exploring catacombs and romancing characters around town to earn valuable information and items, this RPG will take you through all sorts of adventures along the way.
While Queen of Thieves may be a simple and somewhat repetitive affair, what really makes this game a standout is its magnificent and detailed manga artwork, which creates a visually stunning world to explore and a delight for heist and RPG enthusiasts.
Mystery P.I.™ – The Vegas Heist
For those players who instead sympathize with law and order and enjoy the sleuthing side of things, Mystery P.I – The Vegas Heist will certainly be your cup of tea. A massive heist that can rival any of the legendary Las Vegas casino robberies has taken place, and it’s up to you to follow the clues and track down the stolen money.
Investigating in over 25 different Vegas locations and sorting through numerous clues, players will solve all sorts of puzzles designed to test their analytical prowess along the way. If you think that will be easy think again, as there are over 2300 cleverly hidden objects across the entire game – certain to test even Sherlock Holmes himself.
GTA V – Heists
Grand Theft Auto V is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games ever made. While the game itself features a number of amazing solo heist missions, GTA Online added a Heists update in March 2015 that may just be every heist enthusiast’s dream come true.
Taking advantage of the online multiplayer platform, Heists allows players to become Heist Leaders and set up their own heists, recruiting a crew consisting of other online players for the job. Each heist will consist of several missions where your team must work together to pull off a job, or split up and perform various tasks such as hacking, crowd control, stealing items and executing hit jobs.
There are 5 main heists you can pull off in this update, including robbing a small bank franchise, breaking out an inmate out of prison, raiding a chemical weapons facility, and finally, hitting one of the largest banks in the country.
One of the most interesting indie games in its genre, Sneak Thief gives players the liberty of taking vastly different approaches to performing every heist. Whether you are the type that prefers to use your brain and ninja skills to silently infiltrate your target and get away without anyone knowing you were ever there, or to rely on your brawn and smash your way inside using brute force and firepower, Sneak Thief is set to give you exactly what you are looking for.
While this game is currently out on Early Access on Steam, players can enjoy plenty of missions robbing homes, boats, banks, warehouses, labs, and many others, before the multiplayer and further levels are added upon its official release.
