I bought a Nintendo 3DS a month back with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Fire Emblem Awakening. I notice that the 3DS only has one analogy stick which made playing Monster Hunter Quiet annoying sometimes because the main analogy stick was used for moving around in-game but when it came to the camera you had to use the touch screen to move the arrow pad on there to rotate the camera around which was okay at first but when you get onto the later monsters and start swimming around it is very difficult to play. There is a feature on the game which when you see a monster you click the little image that comes up on the touch screen which allows you to lock onto the monster by pressing the L button but it is very frustrating because you will find that you are pressing it pretty much all the time. Then I heard of this attachment for the 3DS which gives it another analogy stick and I thought must buy.
Circle Pad Pro
The Circle Pad Pro was an Accessory brought out for the 3DS and the 3DS XL. It works by the player putting their console into the Circle Pad Pro and setting the games up to respond to the device. It has a sensor which allows the 3DS to pick it up and allow you to use it. It requires one triple A battery for it to work and the battery lasts ages. I have played like 50 hours of Monster Hunter and not once had to change the battery. The Pad makes the 3DS a lot bigger in your hand as well, so if you bought the original 3DS it feels nice that the console feels that bit bigger. The device covers the Wi-Fi switch, the R button, the game cartage slot and the stylus slot so changing games is annoying because you have to remove the device and change the game them but the device back on, same with the Wi-Fi switch and if you want the stylus. The R button is covered but it has two spare R buttons on the Device the original R button and the ZR button which is for players to play the device more comfortable.
When you have the device attach using the ZL button and the ZR button makes it feel naturally to play but if you use the normal L and R buttons it feels really weird and your hands tend to start hurting after a while. The charge slot is accessible for the player to still charge the 3DS while playing still and the volume switch is accessible. Having that extra analogy stick for playing certain game such as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is fantastic. Before when playing the game without the Circle Pad Pro it was difficult to move around under water and to rotate the camera even the bows and guns were solid to use so I didn’t use them at all, then I bought the Pad and now it feels right. I can easily play the game with no problems and also makes using the guns and bows a hell of a lot easier. Sadly the Circle Pad Pro is only compatible with certain games. Here is a quick list of games that I know it will 100% works with:
+Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
+Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (Japanese version only)
+Resident Evil: Revelations
+Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
+Kid Icarus: Uprising
+Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
+Dynasty Warriors VS
+Nano Assault EX
+Samurai Warriors Chronicles 2nd
The Positives and Negatives
+ Makes playing certain game more fun and easier to play
+Feels Comfortable and natural when using it
+Makes the 3DS a bit bigger which I think is nice because your hands aren’t crossing while holding the DS
+ The Analogy stick is well placed
+ Only Requires one battery to use and doesn’t drain them quickly
-Only Compatible with certain games
-Only can be used with the 3DS (have to buy the XL one if want to use one on the 3DS XL)
-Covers some important areas of the DS so you keep having to take it off and back on if changing games or wanting to access Wi-Fi
-the sensor alignment is a bit off (but still works fine)
In all fairness this little piece of kit is well worth every penny I spent on it. They normal go for around £12.00 in store and online. It allows certain games to be at their full best on the 3DS and is just the right size for an attachment. The colour of the Circle Pad Pro is black and as fair as I’m aware of it’s the only colour it is available in but goes nice with the chaos black 3DS and the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 3DS XL. The pad is worth a pick up for anyone playing these games listed above and having the problems with the camera or playing the game because this fixing all those problems. I’m going to give the Circle Pad Pro a well-earned 5/5 for being a nifty piece of kit.
