SEGA® of America, Inc., SEGA® Europe Ltd. and Relic Entertainment have today released content created by the winners of the Polycount ‘War Paint’ skin competition to Company of Heroes™ 2. Players will see a wave of premium UGC hit its in-game store, with 50% of all proceeds going back into the community – 30% to the designers of the winning skins, 20% to the organisation of community activities such as tournaments and their associated prizes.
The skins will be available at a discount through bundles during the launch week, some featuring historical-themed skins, others featuring fantasy themed skins. All the winning entries can be found here. Moreover, to celebrate this release, Company of Heroes 2 will enjoy a free week-end on Steam from April 21st 10am PST to April 24th 10am PST.
The competition, launched on January 4th, 2016, challenged artists to produce themed skins within four categories, each with their own set of criteria for entry: ‘Historical,’ ‘Fine Things,’ ‘Steel Beasts,’ or ‘Living Machines.’ While there were many outstanding entries, only 10 could be selected as winners.
The first activity to benefit from this initiative will be an online tournament with a prize pool, run jointly by Relic and the community, as part of ongoing efforts to invest in Company of Heroes™ 2’s competitive gaming landscape.
“This is a unique opportunity to test a self-sustaining model where players can access top quality content, reward the content creators, and fund community-led events,” said Alex Price, Brand Director at Relic. “We’re excited to see how this might pave the way for more collaboration with players and designers across our portfolio of games.”
