Within three days of launching a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.com, Crowfall™, the highly-anticipated new online by ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. has already reached its goal, amassing more than $800,000 in pledges.
“We are floored and humbled by the response from our community,” explained Gordon Walton, ArtCraft president and executive producer. “We hoped that the vision behind Crowfall would help it find an audience, but we didn’t expect to exceed our target so quickly.”
A new type of online experience, Crowfall is a “Massively Multiplayer Online Throne War Simulator.” Players take the role of kings, queens, mercenaries and assassins in a simulation of a feudal world that includes castle building, siege equipment and territorial conquest system.
“Crowfall is a completely player-driven universe,” explains J. Todd Coleman, CEO and game director. ”Instead of creating thousands of hours of content, we give the players the tools they need to create their own experiences. Crowfall is an economic, political and military simulator. We expect thousands —or hundreds of thousands—of players to join guilds and noble houses and to compete for control of the virtual universe.”
Walton adds, “Prior to launching our Kickstarter campaign, we spent about two months teasing out information about the game we were making…what it is, how it works and what kind of players we thought it might appeal to. Our strategy was to build our community first. Given that we hit our funding target so quickly, that was obviously the right approach.”
Founded by two of the most experienced executives in the history of online gaming, ArtCraft Entertainment is the combined effort of J. Todd Coleman (director, Shadowbane, Wizard101, Pirate101) and Gordon Walton (executive producer, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: the Old Republic). The stated goal of ArtCraft Entertainment is to “push the design of Massively Multiplayer Online games in bold new directions.”
The Kickstarter campaign for Crowfall will continue for another 27 days. The game has already been named a Kickstarter “staff pick,” and is currently the second most popular project on Kickstarter.com, amassing more than 8,000 backers in less than 72 hours.
