One thing we all seem to need nowadays is a case for our phones, I mean come on we’ve all dropped them and screamed “HOLY F****** S***” in our heads as we watch it fall to the ground in slow motion. You just have to see the video of the guy in Australia when the iPhone 6 was released who opened the box on camera and crapped himself as it almost falls to its doom by slipping out of the box. It doesn’t help that manufacturers like apple and the iPhone 6 have started building phones with a slippy aluminium backing, meaning the chances of having an accident increase dramatically, all for the sake of giving it a quality feel. But with so many cheap and poorly made cases available online what do you choose? Hopefully this review helps find the right one for you which suits your style and fulfills all your needs.
I’ve got a few products from EC Technology; a dual port car charger, a mini portable battery charger for phones and tablets, and a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. All of these have been well built and affordable, something I’ve started to associate with the EC Technology name. But what will their Shockproof Full-body iPhone 6 Protective cover be like compared to some of the others I’ve seen on the market? I should note the for the purpose of this review we used a friends phone because I despise apple and I have the much more impressive and more affordable OnePlus One.
From first appearances the case did look rather nice, it came well packaged and when it was opened it really did look the part. It was a mixture of a hard black plastic combined with a bright blue rubber. The phone easily clipped into place and there was a bit of overlap onto the front of the phone, leaving a little lip so if it was dropped the screen wouldn’t be hitting the floor; this meant the iPhone 6 had full protection all round on the front, back and side. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very impressed with the rubber, because although the hard case clipped the phone well it did feel a little loose at times because the rubber part didn’t quite fit the contours of the phone and left me worrying that it may slip out. However, that never did happen and it did pass a drop test with the phone unscathed and still in the case (to do this test cost me a few pints for my friend, so donations are welcome to replenish my funds). The rubber material did have its advantages though giving the case good friction to prevent it slipping and sliding in your hand.
So far it sounds like any other cheap case right? Well, there is much more to this product from EC Technology as the case comes with a couple of accessories which are all included in the price. The main one which turns this from a normal iPhone 6 case into and adventurers dream is a clip that can be attached and removed from the back of the hard casing. This allows you to clip it to your backpack, shirt pocket or wherever you can find a safe space for it. Therefore freeing up space in your pockets and making the phone more easily accessible when using it for things such as listening to music as you walk around in the open air. This also comes in handy when riding your bike or scooter, going for a jog, skating with friends and according to the manufacturer, Bungee Jumping (I’d probably not risk that last activity). The grip was quite firm and the phone didn’t bobble around much, but it cost me enough to do a drop test, never mind sending my friend jumping off a bridge with a simple plastic clip the only thing keeping his phone from oblivion.
The next little wonder that comes with the iPhone 6 case isn’t one that can be removed like the clip, it’s a flip stand that is inbuilt into the hard part of the casing. My friend had a little trouble getting the clip out and unless you have nails it can sometimes take a little longer than you’d wish but it does the job fine once opened. Therefore, if you plan on using your phone to watch Netflix, Amazon Instant Video or any other video streaming service there is no need to have constant hold of your phone or try perking it up using an empty pint glass while you show videos to your friends in the pub. Alternatively, it also comes in handy when playing games, especially if like me you have something along the lines of the SteelSeries Mobile Controller, which allows you to play your mobile games with a traditional controller rather than the touch and motion controls many games now force you to use.
When you think all of this is only going to set you back £4.99 you’ll be wondering why you ever decided to go the local pound shop and get a cheap silicone gel case which tend to look tacky and are less reliable. Not only do you get a great looking case which offers dust prevention, drop resistance and skid resistance, but it also comes with all the accessories that you could need for your iPhone 6. It wasn’t the safest feeling phone at times with the rubber part of the casing feeling like it could’ve had a tighter fit, making it feel more secure; it’s like the police, it’s ok knowing they’re there and what they do, but you feel more secure when you see them in action on the beat rather than just hearing they do this and do that. However, there is always the possibility that this case may have been a defective one out of a bunch of thousands made, and others may not have this issue. Still if you need a case for your iPhone 6 you’ll struggle to find better for this price and probably for a few cases that set you back a bit more.
