Some back history; I started gaming on a dining table, chair, was not great, but at the time, that’s all I could afford, nothing, then once we sorted ourselves out, I was able to afford a basic office chair, nothing special, just a plain fabric back and seat, with a pulley that allowed the seat to go up and down and tilt back and forth. After some time, I was able to get myself my first leather, premium office chair, it was on sale and cost £99 and it was almost perfect, except one thing, the back was not designed well, and I found I needed to always put a pillow behind it.
Then I came across a company called Element Gaming thanks to a wonderful PR person that also works with ebuyer, Element Gaming is a rather new gaming peripheral company on the market, so finding their feet is key to their success. We have been rather lucky, and have been able to review Element Gaming products, from the day they launched, and have seen them slowly increase their range of products.
Recently they have released their own brand of Gaming Chairs, or what I like to call Racing style Gaming Chairs. They have released two versions, one if Red and Black and the other Black and White. When I had seen them, I had to ask for one to review, I have seen many pro gamers with one of these chairs and fell in love with the style and just the way they looked. So I reached out to my contact, got on my hands and knees and begged for one, metaphorically speaking of course.
Compared with others
Now there are more expensive versions of these Racing Style gaming Chairs, one of these companies is called GT Omega Racing http://www.gtomegaracing.com/ based in the UK, and the other one is called DXRacer http://www.dxracer.com/us/en-us/ based in America, and they both pride themselves on creating high quality Racing Office Chairs, with comfort and quality as its key components. However, if you want quality and comfort through these sites, you will be paying a lot, on average about £180.
Now Element Gaming has come on the scene with the own version of the Racing Office Chair, with a low RRP of £119.99 but on ebuyer.com you can grab one for as little as £79.98 (13.06.2015), the question is, has Element Gaming produced a chair that can compete with the best?
First, we have to look at the material used, the Element Chair uses PU Leather, if you are wondering what PU leather is, here I a brief overview; *‘it is leather made from the inner splits of the hide and finished with a polyurethane coating. This leather is made resistant to water penetration and has a high fade resistance’. GT Omega uses Synthetic Leather, which is an artificial (man-made) leather, it’s cheaper and does not require animals being killed for their hides.
So the Element Chair uses real leather hides, and the more expensive one uses fake leather to save on costs, yet GT Omega Racing Chairs cost a lot more. Now to move on to the construction, the Element Chair uses Powerded coated arms and base with nylon casts (Whees), which to me feel like hardened plastic of some sort. The GT Omega Racing uses the same nylon casters, plastic on metal arms and an aluminium base.
Do more adjustments make for a better chair?
Omega chairs do come with many more adjustment features, like the Tilt Locking mechanism, 90-180 degrees angle adjuster for back, Height-adjustable gas spring cylinder and Height adjustable armrests.
The Element Chair does not have as many features, only the Tilt Locking mechanism, and the Height-adjustable gas spring cylinder. So we now know that the Omega GT Racing Chairs have two extra features over the Element Chair, but do we you really need them?
Personally, I have never had a chair that would tilt back a full 90 – 180, why would I even use it, apart from maybe, some special time with the other half. The adjustable armrests, again, I do not think they are much of a biggie, as every chair, I have ever owned, I found the armrests to be set at a perfect height.
Setting up is Easy, But where are the Instructions?
Setting up the chair was easy, as its not the first chair that came in a box and needed to be put together, but where were the damn instructions, even basic ones, there was nothing to guide a newbie. Yes, I have to admit building a chair is self explanatory, but there are people out there, that would most likely need a guide.
Once built, around 10mins, you can really see Element have put a lot of thought into the quality, feel and brightness of the colours used, everything looks and feels accomplished. When sitting on it, you will find that the seating area is rather large and you will have plenty of space to move around, depending on your body mass index of coarse.
Element Gaming Please add Lumbar and Neck Cushions
The only issue I have with the Element Chairs is small, but I feel it’s needed to compete with the industry leaders, or should I say the more expensive ones, a headrest pillow and lumbar cushion. The reasoning is simple, gamers sit down at our computers for a very long period of time, and due to this we sometimes get bad neck or bad backs, or both, when using the neck and lumbar cushions, the support you get from them, is very much grateful. You will find that your back and neck is very well supported when using these additions.
Final thoughts: Well worth it, just buy cushions as well
Other than that little issue, this chair is great, well worth the £119.99RRP or the great price of £79.98 on ebuyer, I would easily say chuck your money at one, but I would also say chuck your money at the two cushions I mentioned, or hopefully Element Gaming will add them to the chairs at a later date.
Ideas for update: Lumbar and Neck Cushions, mold chair so the edges come out a little, so its hugs that gamer.
