INSOMNIA59 CELEBRATES REVAMPED GAMING EDUCATION ZONE WITH 50% DISCOUNT ON TICKET PRICES
Multiplay, the company responsible for the Insomnia gaming festival series, is celebrating the return of its gaming education zone by offering a 50% discount on tickets to local primary and secondary schools to Insomnia59’s (i59) opening day, Friday 9th December. With recent reports suggesting that videogames can boost children’s intelligence, i59’s education zone will put the theory to the test and demonstrate exactly how playing games can support education and learning.
Run by Immersive Minds in association with Multiplay, the education zone has been designed to show families the role that games and play can have in enhancing and supporting curriculum learning and life skills development. The zone, which is discounted to 50% off to any school booking through Ticket Factory, will include a mix of immersive and practical learning experiences through popular videogame titles and technology.
Offering a vision of the future of education, the zone will feature a Virtual Reality (VR) area that will take users on a simulated rollercoaster ride through the ages, teaching them about history and culture as they journey through different time periods.
In addition to the VR section, the education zone will be fitted with a collection of state of the art gaming PCs, pre-installed with a specially designed Minecraft learning experience. The game will take users through a variety of levels, with each area focusing on different educational and learning activities. This will be supported by regular staged events and education pods, where attendees will discover more about how videogames and play can be used to encourage learning and development.
Andy Smith, Insomnia Events Director at Multiplay, commented: “The education zone at i59 will be a great opportunity to show kids and adults alike the broad educational uses that videogames can have. For many kids who dream of working in the games industry, this can also be the important first step to realising that dream, so we fully encourage local schools and young families to come and see what it’s all about.”
Stephen Reid, Creative Director at Immersive Minds, comments: “Videogames are now a part of popular culture, with more kids picking up a controller every day. Instead of discouraging them, we should use it as a way to get them excited about learning and education. This is what our zone is all about and we encourage everyone – kids and adults alike – to come down and broaden their horizons. It may just change some perceptions.”
As well as the education zone, i59 will be bringing an epic combination of LAN Gaming and exhibition halls, esports tournaments, special guests, live music, and a line-up of the most popular games this Christmas including Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The level of entertainment on offer is set to make i59 the ultimate family outing this festive season.
Insomnia59 will be taking place at The NEC, Birmingham, 9-11 December, 2016 and are available online from £20, with BYOC tickets costing £99. Tickets are available at: https://insomniagamingfestival.com/tickets/.
