Publisher comment Koch Media “A really nice piece- very fair i would say so thankyou! :)”
The action flight simulator game Jane’s Advanced Strike Fighters (JSAF), is developed by Trickstar Games and published by Evolved for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.Set in a fictional country of Azbaristian; once an amazing nation that has now been ripped in two by a decade of war between the northern and southern regions of the country.
The game is primarily centred on in-air combat, with the added advantage of never having the need to learn any take-off or landing procedures. The game features a total of 16 story driven missions, with a total of 30 licenced fighter planes. Get into the cot pit of some of the best places from Europe, USA, Russia and China from the likes of the F22A Raptor to Russia’s newest place the 5th Generation PAK-FA.
You are instantly pushed into the cot pit as the squadron leader, with a primary goal, to unify Azbaristain. Take part in some amazing, thrilling joyrides as you assault ground, Ariel and naval forces, where you have only mere second to decide your fate, will you choose victory or defeat (Obvious choice victory as you will need to retry the mission if you fail). This is not a true flight simulator as you almost have unlimited amount of ammo, “Almost Explain” well as soon as your ammo bar is empty, just wait few second and its will re-fill, “yes the government has finally found a way to auto refill ammo on the go” (mmmm). The missions can get very intense as you’re pitted against a number of enemies and threats from SAM turrets (Surface to Air Missiles) to enemy fighter planes trying to pin you down and take you out of the sky.
The game comes with three levels of difficulty, but to experience the most challenging you really need to chuck it on the highest difficulty.Question: Can you fail, not a chance this game has more saves point than I could count, with every save point offering you a chance to start the fight again with full armour and ammo “Of course “and the game will put you right where you left off. Let’s move on to graphics, the detail on the planes are extremely detailed, however this is let down by the surrounding graphics, you get around 65.000km2 of land to fly across consisting of Cities, Mountains, desserts and industrial areas, none of them are anything special to look at. I have said a few times in my review about getting into the cot –pit of the planes, sorry to say this, you don’t, in this game it’s either third person or first person perspective views. You would think first person would mean cot pit features, it don’t you just get to see the full screen. I believe with a little more time spent on graphics this game would be great in that area; however as with every game they have budgets and they might of hit their budget line for this title.
Moving on to the controls, they felt fantastic very fluid and responsive, combat was intense at times and it did feel like you were in a real combat situation. Planes are controlled very easy with the control pad, right trigger to increase your speed, left trigger to decrease speed while the left stick controls pitch and roll. Targeting is simple, auto lock, release and say good bye to one enemy. Each plane gives you a different assortment of weapons to play with during your mission from bombs to missiles. You do get a couple of prompts at the start of the game to show you how to and what to press during the game, if you miss the prompts through, just go into the options and check them out or even read the instruction manual.
No game is complete without multiplayer functionality and evolved has not let us down by adding a 16 player multiplayer combat, not only that, we get up to 4 player co-op campaign mode. Multiplayer consists of Deathmatches and Team DeathMatches however the downside of multiplayer is here as well, No fanbase no multiplayer and this game currently has this issue.
Jane’s Advanced Strike Fighters (JSAF) is a fine piece of work that could have been a winner if more time was spent making the game, the game can lack some excitement at times and plane enthusiasts will love the feel of the planes themselves, If you played the game Hawk and thought to yourself what a pile of crap, then played Ace Combat and thought awesome, this game kind of fits in-between them both, it’s not perfect but overall it’s a well presented flight combat simulation which I feel many will enjoy.
