This Wednesday’s MTG Arena stream was a Developer Stream featuring Chris Clay (Game Director) in which we talked about the visual design of the cards, including the contextual digital card and tapping. We presented different visual styles to provide an illustration to our viewers of the difficulty of deciding on one style over the other, and reinforced the fact that it’s impossible to please everyone and described why we are going in the direction we chose. The direction we chose is a “slight tapping” of 8 degrees, rather than a full 90 degree tap that you will see used in tabletop Magic. In the end, we saw a number of comments from viewers that felt that, while the options that more closely mirror traditional Magic are more comfortable at first, what we are doing now makes sense to them.
One of the big announcements at the end of the stream was a promotion for next week’s live stream, which will be a gameplay stream, featuring TrumpSC (one of the biggest streamers on Twitch) and NumotTheNummy (Magic’s biggest streamer).
