Orphan’s future in limbo
Silhouette platformer has two weeks to crowdfund development
Long-shot indie platformer Orphan is slowly picking up steam on Kickstarter but is it too late? Developer Brandon Goins says the campaign picked up a little shy of 100 new backers in the last two days thanks to Kickstarter-Update-shoutouts from the developers of Shadowrun: Hong Kong and Children of Morta.
“Orphan has slowed to a crawl in the past week and I was beginning to write it off, but it’s been an encouraging last 48 hours and anything is still possible,” said Goins. “I’m incredibly thankful to the other developers who have been pushing Orphan for me. As an indie with no marketing budget it’s hard to get your game in front of an audience so I’m thankful for a supportive indie community who pulls together to help each other.”
Orphan still must raise over $22,000 to meet its $32,000 goal. But if it fails Goins says that won’t stop the dark platformer from coming to light.
“I’ve talked with many successful developers who have one or two failed Kickstarter’s under their belt,” said Goins. “They all found a way to get their games made and I’ll do the same.”
Orphan features a blend of stealth and action platforming inspired by 90’s classics like Another World and Oddworld. Orphan’s Kickstarter campaign can be found here: http://kck.st/1Ca51uV
