We’re all familiar with the various types of “plugs” you can insert into a car’s cigarette lighter socket, and then there are one or two USB outlets in it that can be used to charge a mobile phone or other device.
The best of these can also charge a tablet.
Now Sandberg is releasing a nearly over-geared USB charger for use in the car. It comes with a cable so it can be positioned in the middle, and has no less than 5 USB ports. With mum and dad in the front of the car and three kids in the back, the whole family can thereby have their mobiles charging at the same time.
It is strong enough to charge tablets — such as iPads — all at the same time.
This has raised a few questions for product manager Anders Partida Petersen:
Does anyone really need one of these?
“I actually think a lot of people do. I have two children of my own and put a ReachAll in the car, and there have been several times when we have all five charging ports in use, even if there are only four of us in the car.”
Yeah but don’t you charge up your stuff at home?
“That’s not been my experience. You walk around with your mobile in your pocket or sit in the sofa playing on your iPad, and then suddenly you have to leave. So it’s nice to be able to charge while you’re on the go.
Doesn’t it create clutter to have it sitting right in the middle of the car?
“I actually have found that it has improved traffic safety. Before I used to have to be taking the kids’ charging cables in and out of the little charger in the cigarette lighter outlet while I was driving. Now they can each do it on their own instead. I am also happy to have the cord to my own mobile positioned behind the front seat instead of hanging all over the instrument panel and down by the gear shift”.
ReachAll, which incidentally also functions in lorries with 24V power, is already hitting the shops. Find the nearest retail outlet or shop online at Sandberg’s website www.sandberg.it.
