Publisher Throws Its Weight Behind Industry’s Indie Talent
Square Enix Collective™ is proud to announce its support for the Best Indie Game category at The Golden Joystick Awards presented with OMEN by HP, helping cast light on some of the industry’s most daring and creative talent.
The award – which will now be referred to as “the Best Indie Game in collaboration with Square Enix Collective” – looks to celebrate the achievements of smaller studios and lone developers, proving that phenomenal experiences can be crafted without the big budgets of triple-A development.
Indeed, as Phil Elliott – Director of Indie Publishing at Square Enix West explains, this is something the team at Square Enix Collective™ has been lucky enough to experience firsthand over the last couple of years.
“When we first formed Square Enix Collective, one of our central goals was to help provide a platform for some of the industry’s future talent get their games into the hands of gamers around the world to enable them to remain creatively independent,” details Elliott. “As a result, we’ve witnessed at close quarters just what smaller studios can achieve, day in, day out. Some of the indie games we’ve worked with feature the kind of bold and ultimately ingenious approach to games development that even some of the biggest studios in the world would struggle to compete with.”
As a testament to Square Enix Collective’s commitment to indie developers, it recently joined forces with AMD to support AMD4U, an innovative new program that provides AMD consumers with a range of games from a new generation of cutting edge independent development teams from around the world.
This, along with support for the best indie game category at The Golden Joystick Awards presented with OMEN by HP, further cements Square Enix Collective’s commitment to indie developers across the globe.
“It makes perfect sense for Square Enix Collective to get behind the indie category at what is one of the most important awards the games industry has to offer,” concludes Elliott. “We can’t wait to see who comes out on top.”
