Earlier today the TF2 development team finally released more information on the upcoming update for TF2, this update will include a lot of weapon changes and the long awaited competitive mode where 6 players are matched up vs another 6 players in order to go up the competitive rankings of which there are 18.
When you win games in this mode you will gain a number of points and there are a set amount of points to get to your next ranking, once you have accumulated enough points you will automatically proceed to the next rank however if you lose games you will lose points and possibly go down in ranks.
This is an update that many in the Team fortress 2 community having been requesting for a number of years, as an ex-competitive player it lightens my heart to see Valve taking more steps to make TF2 relevant in esports since as a competitive game TF2 has been rather lacking in official support for a very long time so far the competitions and competitive leagues are community created and receive very little developer support. For this update the TF2 Developers invited multiple community players from both the competitive community and the casual community in order to improve the experience for both sides.
This update will be available for all players who possess either a premium account; to get a premium account you will have needed to purchase a retail copy of the game or you will need to purchase an item from the ingame shop, or you will need to purchase a competitive pass for $9.99 in the game store; This is a permanent addition to your game so only 1 purchase is required.
Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of information in regards to the update as Valve have kept most of it under wraps but I’m looking forward to the coming days and personally I will be playing a lot of this mode when it arrives.
