Trion World’s hit free-to-play MMO shooter Defiance has announced new staff changes, promoting Carble Cheung into the role of the new Creative Lead. Having joined the Defiance team in 2013, Carble’s achievements and design sense has since been praised as ‘stellar’ by Trick Dempsey, former Creative Lead. “His skill and know-how are unparalleled”, Trick adds, “[and] his work can be seen in many of the best encounters in the game”.
Trick himself will be leaving Defiance to move onto a different assignment, though he admits to deep sense of attachment. “It has been my most fulfilling project, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.”
With the free Alcatraz update nearing and the tons of content planned for Season 3 including arkfalls, sieges, and new enemies to face, Carble is excited for the prospect of what’s to come. “Welcome to the future of Defiance.”

In other news, Julia Fleming, Lead Content Designer, opens up regarding the developmental process and her role at the RIFT, while dropping a hint of the 3.2 update that’s expected to come.
In 2009, while working on a different MMO, Julia first encountered the name of Trion Worlds through a tittle called ‘Heroes of Telara.’ Through the network of her ex-coworkers, they convinced Julia to travel to California and meet the very team behind it all. A month later she was working for Trion as a Content Designer.
Five years onwards, Julia now oversees all RIFT content, from Instant Adventure to Story Quests to Zone Events, working with the Systems team to integrate it accurately. More concretely, as an example, is the 3.2 update coming up on the horizon.
“Well, one of the Senior Designers (Tacitus) and I have been talking a lot about improving some of the INSTANT aspects of the game, especially those related to ADVENTURE. He’s got some interesting plans on how to make the current system more engaging for players of all levels – and a few surprises as well. Of course there’s a lot more to 3.2 than that, and you’ll be hearing more about it as we get closer to release!”
