Twisty’s Asylum Escapades is a dark, stylized, 3D, single player action adventure video game. You play as Twisty; the lovable, disembodied floating brain with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, as he makes his way through this bizarre mental facility, fighting enemies and solving puzzles in order to secure his own “early release” from the asylum.

History
Twisty’s Asylum Escapades was designed with two primarily motivations in mind. The first was to see how difficult it would be to create an entertaining and functional 3D video game. Since this is Twisted Jenius’ first game, we decided that it should serve as an experiment and give us a feel for what serious game development is like. Admittedly, we’ve maintained higher standards for this game than what you might expect from most first time, two man, independent video game projects.
We tried to keep our goals realistic for a first time independent game of this scope, while at the same time, trying to make everything as professional and fun as possible. We did this not only for the benefit of the end user, but for our own benefit as developers. This knowledge will help us to deliver even better quality gaming experiences to players in the future.
The second objective for this project is to serve as a promotional device for TwistedJenius.com. This is also what inspired the basic premise for the game. Aside from using our mascot Twisty, which seemed like a logical choice, much of the game’s aesthetics are also inspired by or based on the web site. The game itself is a continuation of Twisty’s escape from the asylum which started as our animated intro, which has been a prominent feature on the site for some time.
