The story follows Denny, a free spirit and artist who falls for Ryan, a strait-laced lawyer. When Denny questions gender, their love is tested. The lead character, Denny, is played by four different actors who identify as non-binary, or trans non-binary: Hewson, Bobbi Salvor Menuez (Nocturnal Animals, I Love Dick, Transparent) and newcomers Lex Ryan, Chloe Freeman. Alex Russell (Chronicle, Carrie, SWAT) and Alexis Denisof (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers) also star.
The film marks the feature debut of Australian writer-director David O’Donnell, and an Australian producing team headed by Raynen O’Keefe and Russell. Cinematographer is kiwi lenser Jacqueline Fitzgerald. Composer is Melbourne musician, Evelyn Ida Morris.
“At this point in history, the casting of trans, gender-diverse and non-binary characters with people of lived experience, is not only a social responsibility of film-making, but is also a moral imperative in the task of uplifting trans and gender-diverse stories, voices, and representation,” said Raynen, who also identifies as trans and non-binary.
