Atari has announced that it has acquired an exclusive technology license from mobile tech startup Wonder, leading the way for Atari to bring enhanced cross-platform functionality to the Atari VCS and mobile devices.
Atari will leverage hybrid mobile gaming and entertainment platform WonderOS — which was designed to deliver a seamless ecosystem of multi-platform games, entertainment apps, and streaming services (locally or through the cloud) — to further expand the capabilities of the Atari VCS home entertainment system and offer content on devices everywhere.
Wonder was founded in 2016 by Andy Kleinman, a former Scopely, Zynga, and Disney executive, and gathered significant attention because of its diverse roster of investors, which included prominent figures such as Grammy-winning artist Shakira, Gerard Pique, Baron Davis, late NBA Commissioner David Stern, as well as iconic figures in gaming history, such as SEGA’s Hayao Nakayama and even Atari’s original founder Nolan Bushnell.
