Back to the Dawn, the gritty prison-break RPG from developer Metal Head Games, has officially launched on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is published by Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Spiral Up, bringing the story-rich RPG to Nintendo players for £29.99.
Already earning Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, the game drops players into the dangerous world of Boulderton Prison, where corruption runs deep and survival depends on the alliances you make.
Players will take on the role of one of two protagonists, each with their own storyline and mission inside the prison.

Two Characters, Two Stories
In Back to the Dawn, players can choose between two very different perspectives within the prison.
You can play as Thomas the Fox, an investigative journalist who has been framed and thrown behind bars after uncovering a dangerous conspiracy.
Alternatively, players can step into the shoes of Bob the Panther, an undercover detective who has infiltrated the prison on a secret mission. While Bob has never failed an assignment before, the brutal reality of Boulderton Prison may push him to his limits.
Both characters experience the prison from unique angles, uncovering secrets and building relationships that ultimately shape how the story unfolds.
A Prison Full of Choices
Boulderton Prison isn’t just a backdrop — it’s a massive environment filled with characters, rival gangs, and hidden opportunities.
The prison is ruled by three powerful gangs, and players will need to decide whether to work with them, manipulate them, or try to survive independently.
With over 100 handcrafted quests, multiple escape routes, and several possible endings, the choices players make throughout the story will have lasting consequences.
The game also features an enormous narrative script of more than 500,000 words, creating a deeply replayable RPG experience.
Build Your Character Your Way
The game features an open-ended character development system that allows players to approach challenges however they choose.
You might become a tough fighter who solves problems with brute force, a stealthy thief who moves through the shadows, or a charismatic manipulator who talks their way out of danger.
Skills can be upgraded over time, and players can craft tools that suit their playstyle while slowly climbing the prison hierarchy from newcomer to top dog.
Plan the Perfect Escape
Escaping Boulderton Prison won’t be easy.
Players will need to explore every corner of the facility, from their prison cells and the infirmary to hidden sewer routes and rooftops that might provide a path to freedom.
Success depends on careful planning, clever use of resources, and knowing exactly who to trust inside the prison walls.
Of course, whether you follow the rules or leave chaos in your wake is entirely up to you.
Demo Available for Switch Players
Players interested in trying the game before committing can download a free demo on Nintendo Switch.
Even better, all progress made in the demo will carry over into the full game if players decide to purchase it.
Outside of Nintendo platforms, Back to the Dawn is also available on Steam, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass.
Physical Edition Coming Later
A physical version of the game is also planned.
Publisher Clear River Games will release boxed editions across North America, Latin America, and the European Union, though more details about the release will be announced at a later date.
For now, players can jump straight into the digital version and begin plotting their escape from one of gaming’s most dangerous prisons.
