Global publisher 505 Games and developer MercurySteam have confirmed that their dark-fantasy action adventure Blades of Fire is finally heading to Steam on May 14th — and it’s not just a simple port. The Steam launch arrives alongside a massive Version 2.0 update packed with new content, gameplay changes, and long-requested improvements.
Already available on EPIC PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game’s Steam debut marks a big moment for players who have been waiting to forge steel on Valve’s platform.
A World Where Steel Turns to Stone
In Blades of Fire, you step into the boots of Aran de Lira — the last warrior capable of forging true steel in a broken world where metal mysteriously turns to stone. It’s not a hack-and-slash power fantasy. This is a methodical, deliberate combat experience built around patience, precision, and commitment.
Every weapon you create matters. Your blade is not just a stat stick — it’s shaped permanently by your choices. The materials you select, the components you forge, and the way you fight all define your survival. If you rush in, you’ll fall. If you adapt, you might endure.
This is a game designed for players who value atmosphere, weighty combat, and real consequences over flashy spectacle.
Steam Demo Available Now
To celebrate the announcement, a dedicated Steam demo is now live as part of Steam Next Fest.
The demo covers the first chapter of the game and allows players to:
- Forge their first weapons
- Experience the game’s unique combat system
- Face off against a massive troll
- Learn more about Aran’s journey
Even better — progress made in the demo carries over to the full release via your save file. That’s always a welcome feature, especially in a game built around crafting and progression.
Version 2.0 – Major Free Update Across All Platforms
The Steam release launches with Version 2.0, a substantial update that will also roll out as a free update on all platforms on May 14th.
This isn’t a minor patch. It’s a significant evolution of the experience.
New Content
- New Game Plus
- New Challenge Level: Titanium
- New Weapon Parts & Skins (exclusive to New Game Plus)
- Elements Transmutation – change material types in crafting
- Photo Mode
- Boss Revival Mode – replay boss fights and earn rewards
- Adso’s weapon spells for deeper combat mechanics
- You can now pet the Ox
Boss Revival Mode stands out as a smart addition. Not only can you revisit tough encounters, but rewards tied to this mode unlock spells that enhance weapons with special effects — adding more build depth and replay value.
And yes, you can now pet the Ox. Sometimes it’s the small wins.
Improvements
- Expanded death and mutilation variations
- Improved animation transitions
- Nvidia DLSS 4 implementation
DLSS 4 support is especially notable for PC players running RTX hardware, potentially offering smoother performance without sacrificing visual fidelity.
Additional Features
- Full keyboard and mouse key remapping
- New achievements
- Steam Deck support
Steam Deck compatibility should open the door for players wanting to take this dark fantasy journey on the go — though given the game’s deliberate pacing, it might demand your full focus.
Adventurer Pack and Extras
The Steam version will also include the Adventurer Pack, alongside the digital artbook and the award-winning original soundtrack composed by Óscar Araujo.
Console and EPIC players won’t miss out — the Adventurer Pack will be available separately on those platforms once the Steam version launches.
May 14 Is a Big Step Forward
For players who’ve been watching from the sidelines, May 14th looks like the definitive way to jump into Blades of Fire. Between New Game Plus, higher difficulty options, transmutation crafting, boss replayability, and quality-of-life upgrades, Version 2.0 feels less like a patch and more like a relaunch.
If you’re into methodical combat, meaningful crafting systems, and a darker, weightier fantasy tone — this is one to keep on your radar.
