Hello all and welcome back to another awesome Exclusive Interview, this one is from our good friends over at Bohemia Interactive.
Well first of thanks for joining us today it is much appreciated, just so everyone knows who you are, please will you introduce yourself please also include a short bio about your studio ‘Bohemia Interactive’?
Hi, my name is Korneel van ‘t Land and I’m Brand & PR Manager at Bohemia Interactive. Our studio is primarily known for the Arma series, starting with Arma: Cold War Assault (formerly known as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis). Recently, we also launched a helicopter game named ‘Take On Helicopters’ – which has become one of my personal favourites.
Right now we’re focusing on the Windows PC & Xbox 360 launch of Carrier Command: Gaea Mission in September and we’re working hard on Arma 3.
It’s very nice to meet you Korneel, Thats an impressive line up of games, well shall we move on. With a some great titles behind Bohemia Interactive with your latest game being a mini-series called Carrier Command: Recruits. Tell us a little bit about the mini-series; what inspired you to develop it and what can people expect from it?
After two of our artists had finished most of their work on Carrier Command: Gaea Mission, we sat together to discuss alternative options for raising awareness for the game – before we’ll be exhibiting to the public at gamescom. We then came up with the idea for a series of mini-games, so people could already get a small taste the main game’s atmosphere. The result: Carrier Command: Recruits!
That sound like a great idea, hope Gamescom 2012 also goes well for you as well. So in one sentence sum up why the visitors on our site should go out and play Carrier Command: Recruits?
Carrier Command: Recruits is a short, fun and free diversion for all – and not to forget: it gives you the opportunity to win a digital copy of Carrier Command: Gaea Mission!
www.carriercommand.com/recruits
Now that is AWESOME! a chance to win a free copy of the full game, Come on students and viewers get on this site, its offering free stuff. So What is next for Bohemia Interactive?
Our Carrier Command team is working hard on finalising the game, preparing the preview/review builds and making a consumer demo. We also have some trailers in the pipeline. The Arma 3 team is right in the middle of development and is preparing a playable Alpha build for the community to play and test later this year. All in all, 2012 marks an exciting year for the studio!
WOW sounds like an interesting and very busy year for you guys and girls over at Bohemia and plenty of sweet games coming for fans to watch out for.We have almost finished to two more questions; As Invision Game Community is powered by students and as they’re our target audience, what advice would you give to budding young students wanting to get into the industry?
Well there’s a variety of disciplines within the game industry, so it partly depends what you want to be doing. If you want to become a developer, I’d recommend you to start experimenting with one of the free engine development kits out there (one great starting point for designers is actually the popular visual mission editor in Arma 2 and Take On Helicopters). If you’re seeking a marketing position, be sure to keep track of industry trends and developments, news, trailers, demos and promotions.
All in all, whatever you want to be doing, one of the best advice for people is to play a wide variety of games and make short notes about what you think works, what doesn’t, and why – whether it’s about the mechanics, storytelling/presentation, design, UI, engine, promotion or simply the concept as whole.
Thanks a lot for the advice it will be much apprenticed by our audience; now for one final question; what’s your favourite way to cook eggs?
On the solar-heated hood of my imaginary Lamborghini 😉
Now that is something we would love to see :), Thanks alot for all your time and patience, we wish you all the best of luck with the release of Carrier Command and the upcoming ARMA 3.
