If you think you’ve exhausted everything worth watching on streaming services during these difficult days of social distancing, why not pay a visit to Crunchyroll, the Japanese anime SVOD (streaming video on demand) that has just announced a brand new slate of spring shows.
Among them is the long-awaited final series of Food Wars, Food Wars! The Fifth Plate. Using incredible 3D animation to create mouthwatering dishes (which might prove agonising if you’re queuing for basics right now) Food Wars is like an anime version of Masterchef, with students at a cookery school, battling to be the best.
In the new series, our hero Soma, has moved up a grade with a seat at the Totsuki Ten Masters Council and is looking forward to the challenge of BLUE, a new gastronomic contest seeking extraordinary dishes. Things are set to get heated in the kitchen as there are new rivals on the scene and the competition is intense. Food Wars! is based on a manga series by Yuto Tsukuda who attended Crunchyroll Expo last year with illustrator Shun Saeki and producer Noriko Dohi where they gave fans a behind the scenes look at how the show is made.
