Bosoneon Studio and Thousand Generation have officially launched Deep Fringe into Early Access on Steam, giving players their first chance to experience its hand-crafted, retro-inspired take on turn-based tactical combat. To celebrate the launch, the game is available with a 10% Early Access discount.
Set in a brutal post-apocalyptic wasteland, Deep Fringe puts players in command of squads of powerful mechs, where every decision can mean survival or total destruction. The focus is on high-stakes tactical battles that reward smart positioning, clever use of terrain, and careful planning.
Deep Fringe Early Access Trailer
A Wasteland Built on Lost History
At its core, Deep Fringe explores a society that still clings to advanced technology despite having lost its history. The world is fractured by war and cultural division, filled with grotesque enemies, decaying landscapes, and factions fighting for control. Its narrative draws heavy inspiration from classic science fiction, reimagined through a modern tactical strategy lens.
According to Li Linge, Producer at Bosoneon Studio, the game has been a true passion project:
“Driven by our love for tactical strategy games, we came together to create Deep Fringe from the ground up. Since May 2023, our small team has been building every pixel, art, and unit by hand. Launching in Early Access today, we’re excited to share this world with players and get their feedback as we continue to grow and refine the experience.”
Key Features of Deep Fringe
Shape the Battlefield
Combat in Deep Fringe is all about control. Players can destroy obstacles, reshape terrain, and create new pathways to gain the upper hand. Enemies can be knocked into traps, thrown into environmental hazards, or even pushed off the map entirely. The ability to switch between top-down and isometric camera views adds another layer of tactical awareness.
Command Powerful Units
Each unit brings unique abilities and combat roles to the battlefield. From raw destructive power to vital support skills, squad composition plays a huge role in success. Deep customization systems, including skill trees and cybernetic enhancements, allow players to tailor their units and experiment with new strategies.
A Story Driven by Choice
Players will venture into hostile regions to uncover the truth behind the apocalypse and the factions shaping the future of the wasteland. Choices matter, influencing alliances, rivalries, and how the story unfolds. The Early Access version currently includes around 10 hours of main story content, along with multiple side maps.
Hand-Drawn Retro Visuals
Deep Fringe features a striking hand-drawn art style inspired by classic retro sci-fi. The world feels fractured, raw, and unsettling, filled with decayed environments and disturbing creatures that perfectly match the tone of the setting.
Highly Customisable Level Editor
An intuitive graphical editor allows players to create their own levels, characters, and full campaigns. These creations can be shared through the Steam Workshop, opening the door to a constant stream of community-made content.
