Devil May Cry 3Β serves as a prequel for the iconic action series, unfolding years before the originalΒ Devil May Cry with a younger version of Dante. This origin story explores the journey leading up to and culminating in Danteβs face-off against his twin brother, Vergil, who is set on unlocking a gate to the demonic realm. Dante must use his trademark sword Rebellion and dual pistols Ebony and Ivory to stop Vergil and prevent the world from becoming infested by demons. Along the way, players will gain insight into many aspects of the series from the first encounter with fan-favourite Lady as well as the beginnings of Danteβs shop and origins of the series name.
Devil May Cry 3 continued the seriesβ trademark for intense, non-stop action with flair while introducing the new “style” based combat system with six selectable options including Swordmaster and Gunslinger that change up the gameplay. Each style has its own range of features, and players can power up their favourite style for increased special attack abilities, bringing an extra level of strategy to the action. Devil May Cry 3Β also introduced the ability to switch between currently equipped weapons on the fly for additional combat freedom.
Devil May Cry 3Β Special EditionΒ brings the full stylish action package to Nintendo Switch, offering the addition of Vergil as a playable character and the 9,999 floors of the βBloody Palaceβ survival mode. The systemβs handheld mode offers the added flexibility of playing on-the-go for the first time.

Introducing new feature #1: Style Switching!
- Devil May Cry 3Β was the first in the series to introduce the Style System, allowing you to pick between 6 different styles (4 to start, and 2 unlocked later) at the start of each Mission or at a Divinity Statue. The Style System was kicked into high gear inΒ Devil May Cry 4, which introduced dynamic Style Switching during combat with a click of each of the d-pad buttons. Since we knowΒ DMC3 Special EditionΒ holds a special place in everyoneβs hearts, we set out to make it even extraΒ SSSpecialΒ this time around, and borrowed that new trick fromΒ DMC4.
- Style Switching inΒ DMC3 Special EditionΒ (Nintendo Switch) will work just like youβd expect. PressΒ UPΒ for Trickster,Β DOWNΒ for Royal Guard,Β LEFTΒ for Gunslinger andΒ RIGHTΒ for Swordmaster. For the special styles unlocked later in the game, itβll require a quick double-tap of specific buttons. For Doppelganger, double-tapΒ LEFT, and for Quicksilver, double-tapΒ RIGHT.
- Leveling up the main 4 styles is also akin to the originalΒ DMC3Β release, but with the added advantage that you can work on leveling up multiple styles almost simultaneously!
