Arc System Works is a video game developer and publisher based in Japan, they are best known for their 2D fighting games franchise Guilty Gear and Blazblue. It comes as no surprise the studioβs next game has already amassed plenty of anticipation. This is also helped by the fact itβs using the hugely popular Dragon Ball Z licence.
What is Dragon Ball FighterZ?
Dragon Ball Fighter Z is an upcoming 2.5D fighter, with teams consisting of three unique characters; the roster is set to be absolutely crammed with beloved Dragon Ball favourites. From playing the closed beta FighterZ is shaping up to be a contender for a must have fighting game of 2018
Bandai Namco is planning to launch Dragon Ball FighterZ worldwide in 2018 across PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Dragon Ball FighterZ roster β Who can I play as?
With the release date still several months away and given the rich history of the show there are plenty of characters for Arc System Works to choose from and hopefully yet to be announced for the FighterZ roster. With eleven fighters to choose from during the closed beta.
You can check them out the current roster below:
- Goku
- Teen Gohan
- Vegeta
- Future Trunks
- Cell
- Majin Buu
- Frieza
- Krillin
- Piccolo
- Android 16
- Android 18/w17
Dragon Ball FighterZ gameplay β How does it play?
FighterZ takes inspiration from several different brawlers to craft an experience that seems both fast and tactical in its execution. You control a team of three different fighters, all of which can be switched between at any time. With the fighters not currently on the field coming in to provide support at the tap of a button.
To win the fight you will need to defeat all three of the opposing team, so itβs key to not be too reckless and to devise a strategy that takes advantage of your teamβs strengths and weaknesses. Chaining together combos and pulling off super moves is essential for seasoned players.

Dragon Ball FighterZ stages β Where can I fight?
It wouldnβt be Dragon Ball Z without a handful of ludicrously mental locations to brawl across. FighterZ doesnβt disappoint, offering up the following set of locales:
- World Tournament Stage
- Planet Namek
- Dying Planet Namek
- Cell Games Arena
- Space (Earth)
- Wasteland
I must stress that what I have discussed through this review is based off the closed beta and it is important to remember that this was to help improve the game and servers ready for launch (hopefully an open beta to boot!) And even though this was a closed beta the game was fantastic and combat felt fluid and actually well balanced.
