A new SEO tool has revealed that the world’s largest video gaming expo, E3, boosted site visibility for PlayStation more than it did for rivals Nintendo and Xbox. The tool allows businesses to compare how well their website can be found in the search results on Google in relation to their competitors. During E3 2018 and for the two weeks after, PlayStation experienced a 16.6% increase in site visibility, whereas Nintendo and Xbox only saw an 11% increase.
A new SEO tool has revealed that the world’s biggest gaming expo, E3, boosted site visibility for PlayStation more than its rivals Nintendo and Xbox this year.
The new tool, SEOCompare, allows businesses to compare how well their website can be found in search results on Google in relation to competitors, and discovered that from the 7th to the 28th June, PlayStation experienced the biggest increase in site visibility out of the big three consoles.
During the middle two weeks of June, PlayStation’s site visibility increased by 33,523, from 201,526 to 235,049 – a 16.6% increase. According to the data, PlayStation has remained the most visible on Google out of the three gaming giants since July 2017 and experienced a huge spike in visibility when Fortnite was released in September 2017.
E3 2018, which was held from the 11th to the 13th June, is the world’s biggest gaming expo where gaming companies showcase new technology and releases. At this year’s E3, PlayStation announced four new games: The Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, and Insomniac’s Spider-Man.
Google Trends validate that increase too, showing that from the 10th to the 16th June, the PlayStation 4 beat the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One to the top spot in terms of volume of web searches worldwide.
SEOCompare was created by digital SEO agency, Barracuda, which has added it to its extensive list of on-site resources. The tool is fully supported and users are encouraged to contact the company if they have questions about results.
Henry Lewington, managing director of Barracuda, commented:
“It’s always interesting to see the impact major industry events have on companies in terms of SEO. E3 is arguably the largest and most popular gaming expo in the world, where companies pay a lot of money to exhibit, so I’m sure they’d be interested to see what effect the expo has on both their site and search visibility versus their closest competitors.
“We were surprised at the results of our SEOCompare analysis of PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. We expected the expo to have more of an impact on the three gaming giants’ site visibility. It did increase all three but only marginally compared to Christmas and game releases like Fortnite, which had more of a positive effect. It’s clear that PlayStation benefited the most from E3, with Google Trends supporting our data that it experienced the most positive SEO effect.”
