Echoes of the End, the debut title from Icelandic developer Myrkur Games, is available today on PlayStation Plus for Extra and Premium subscribers. The action-adventure joins the subscription service alongside a fresh update that introduces a long-requested photo mode and themed Valentine’s outfits for its lead characters.
The game will remain available on PlayStation Plus for the next year, giving subscribers plenty of time to experience its cinematic fantasy adventure.
A Cinematic Debut From Reykjavík
Originally released in August 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, Echoes of the End marked the first project from the Reykjavík-based studio. Built by a small but focused team, the game set out to deliver a character-driven narrative wrapped in immersive worldbuilding.
To achieve that vision, Myrkur Games developed custom production pipelines for motion capture, photogrammetry and performance animation. The result is a title designed to feel grounded and emotionally authentic, with a strong emphasis on cinematic presentation.
New Update Available Across All Platforms
The latest update is live now on all platforms and introduces several additions and improvements:
- A fully featured Photo Mode, allowing players to capture moments across the world of Aema
- New Valentine’s themed outfits for protagonists Ryn and Abram
- Multiple bug fixes and performance improvements
The addition of photo mode is particularly fitting given the game’s detailed environments and Unreal Engine 5-powered visuals.
A Personal Story on an Epic Scale
Players step into the role of Ryn, a rare individual known as a vestige, born with the ability to wield ancient and volatile magic. As she attempts to rescue her brother from a brutal empire standing on the edge of war, she uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to reignite an ancient conflict and plunge the world of Aema into chaos.
The adventure unfolds across ten hand-crafted chapters, blending high-stakes action with themes of trust, sacrifice and redemption. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Echoes of the End leans heavily into cinematic storytelling and dramatic character moments.
Enhanced Edition Boosted Player Reception
Towards the end of 2025, Myrkur Games released the Enhanced Edition of Echoes of the End — a free overhaul that addressed community feedback following the game’s original August launch.
Updates included faster pacing, reworked animations, new difficulty options, additional equipment and various gameplay refinements. Following the overhaul, Steam user reviews climbed to 85% positive, marking a strong turnaround for the title.
Halldór Snær Kristjánsson, CEO of Myrkur Games, commented on the release:
“Our community is incredibly important to us, and their valuable feedback helped us bring the game to the level we always envisioned it. We’re delighted to be bringing Echoes of the End to PlayStation Plus alongside new in-game content as a thank you to the support of our players, and we especially can’t wait to see their creativity with the new photo mode feature.”
With its arrival on PlayStation Plus and continued post-launch support, Echoes of the End gets a second life — and potentially a much wider audience.
