EE and EXCEL Esports, have launched their Power Up Programme, a four-month training programme for six aspiring women looking to break into the video gaming industry.
The programme, comprised of modules ranging from nutrition and wellbeing, to skills workshops and financial guidance from HSBC, opens for applications online today. Players will also be able to apply by joining the UK’s first-ever-all-women’s esports tournament at UK gaming festival, Insomnia71, on Thursday 7th September.
Programme participants will also be considered for EXCEL’s VALORANT women’s team which competes in the Gamechangers series.
This comes as new research from EE reveals:
- Half of gamers in the UK think women aren’t taken as seriously as men in the gaming and esports industry
- 8 in 10 think men are generally perceived as being better gamers and esports professionals
- Four fifths think women gamers and esports players are just as skilled as their male counterparts
- Nearly half admit that there is still a long way to go with the industry being viewed as male-dominated.
