From mid-October UK American Express Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers will be able to make instant bookings at top restaurants in London and across the UK, via a new digital reservation service launching in the American Express mobile app.
The new service is part of the American Express Global Dining Collection, which offers Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers one-of-a-kind dining experiences and access to hundreds of exclusive tables reserved daily at some of the most sought-after restaurants in the world. Global Dining Collection restaurants include 36 of the 50 most requested restaurants in London¹, such as high profile favourites Alain Ducasse, Nobu, StreetXO and Hakkasan.
With the introduction of this new digital capability, UK Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers will be able to quickly search and instantly book reservations whilst on the move at hundreds of American Express’ Global Dining Collection partners worldwide and nearly 2,000 restaurants nationwide through SevenRooms, a reservation, seating and guest management platform with clients in 100+ cities worldwide, and Bookatable, a Michelin Group company and leader of restaurant reservations in Europe.
Restaurants available to book on the app have been carefully curated based on demand and can be easily browsed by cuisine style or location on an interactive map. Additional capabilities such as personalised restaurant recommendations will follow in the coming months as well as increased scale in reservation options and more exclusive reservations available only for UK Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers. A roll out of this new digital service to premium Cardmembers in the U.S. and other regions will follow.
UK American Express Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers are the first to take advantage of the new digital reservation service following the acquisition of Cake Technologies, a London-based dining services start-up, by American Express in 2017. The UK launch represents the integration of the Cake team and the creation of new dining capabilities that bring together American Express’ dining relationships, superior service and scale to enhance Cardmembers’ dining experiences and access.
Josh McKay, Vice President Global Consumer Benefits and Services at American Express, commented, “Our premium Cardmembers love to dine out, whether that’s discovering the hottest new restaurant in town or frequenting a trusty favourite. This is why for over 25 years we’ve enjoyed providing them access to restaurants and reservations across the globe through Platinum Concierge and now the Global Dining Collection. We’re excited to further support our Cardmembers dining experiences with the upcoming launch of the new digital reservation service in the Amex mobile app, which will soon allow UK Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers to quickly and easily search and book reservations at more than 2,000 curated restaurants nationwide.”
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa said: “We are so excited to be a part of the Global Dining Collection and to share Nobu with Cardmembers who have such a strong passion for inventive food experiences. We started with menus created just for Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers, and now we are excited to offer exclusive reservation holds each night at many of our restaurants, including Nobu London Berkley Street, through the new app!”
Michel Cassius, CEO of Bookatable by Michelin, said: “We are delighted to be working with American Express to help Cardmembers who are passionate about food have the best experience when booking selected restaurants from our extensive European network. With over 60 percent of restaurant bookings now made via mobile, our award winning technology will help to bring diners and restaurants together in just a few clicks.”
The new digital reservation service will be available to UK American Express Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers in October. To get access to the new service, UK Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers must download the updated version of the Amex mobile app. The digital reservation service can be found under the Membership tab in the app.
Wider benefits of the Global Dining Collection include exclusive reservation access, customised experiences at select restaurants, plus unique dining events, facilitated through exclusive partnerships with world-renowned chefs including Nobu Matsuhisa, Marcus Wareing, the Roca brothers and more. Upcoming events include a day with Massimo Bottura at his restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, where Cardmembers will get an interactive experience with Bottura then dine on a multicourse tasting menu inspired by his childhood, and a multiday wine tasting experience with La Paulee and top sommelier Daniel Johnnes in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, where fine cuisine will be paired with exceptional vintages.
