Publisher KOEI TECMO Europe and developer Team NINJA have released a brand-new demo for FATAL FRAME II Crimson Butterfly REMAKE, giving players an early look at the terrifying return of one of survival horror’s most iconic games.
The demo is now available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Players who complete the demo will also be able to carry their saved progress into the full game when it launches on 12th March 2026.
Return to the Haunted Minakami Village
The demo introduces players to the chilling opening of FATAL FRAME II Crimson Butterfly REMAKE, following twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they explore the eerie and abandoned Minakami Village.
Their journey begins inside a mysterious abandoned house where a crimson butterfly leads them deeper into the haunted location. As players investigate the dark surroundings, they will face terrifying encounters with wandering spirits and supernatural wraiths.
To survive, Mio must rely on the iconic Camera Obscura, a mystical camera capable of capturing and defeating hostile spirits.
Enhanced Visuals and New Features
This remake brings the classic horror experience to modern platforms with upgraded visuals, improved audio design, and additional gameplay features.
Alongside the enhanced graphics and atmosphere, players will be able to try out new mechanics introduced in the remake, including the ability for Mio to hold Mayu’s hand while exploring the cursed village.
The demo offers a taste of the tense exploration and ghost encounters that made the original game such a memorable survival horror experience.
