When it comes to movies, action films are still one of the most popular genres going. People just love the sheer excitement, thrills and drama they bring. Some of the most successful and iconic action movies in history have been full of car chases, explosions, gunfights, and a lot more fast-paced excitement.
Throughout history there have been some iconic actors that have been associated with some of the best action films including Bruce Willis, Arnold Swarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone. For fans of this exciting genre, there are currently some of the best action movies on Netflix right now including Den of Thieves, The Departed, and Mad Max.
Of course, no action film is complete without an iconic line or two from the main character.
“Bond. James Bond.”
Dr No (1962)
While it might be difficult for some fans to choose the top film in the James Bond movies, there’s no comparison to which is the best line that Bond says in his films. His classic “Vodka Martini. Shaken not stirred” drinks order might be quite well-known but it’s actually Bond’s first introduction on-screen that takes the gold. The classic moment happens right at the start when Bond is playing Baccarat in a glamorous casino. When asked by another player what his name is, he comes out with this classic line.
Dr.No saw Sean Connery as the first James Bond utter the now iconic line that has been featured in practically every 007 film since. The character of James Bond also has many other iconic attributes including his Martini drink order, his Aston Martin, and his gadgets from Q. Another memorable thing about Dr.No is that it introduces Bond’s favourite weapon of choice, a Walther PPK, to the audience. Interestingly, airsoft replicas of the Walther PPK are available to buy for airsoft fans of 007.
“Let off some steam, Bennett.”
Commando (1985)
The plot for this 1980s Arnold Schwarzenegger film involves Arnie’s character (ex-special forces ace John Matrix) trying to save his daughter from dangerous kidnappers who are attempting to blackmail him into carrying out a political assassination. The movie is also known for using a wide range of weapons – with the Tokyo Marui M870 Tactical Shotgun being a good example.
The film ends with Arnie and main baddie Bennett squaring off to fight. Arnie ends up wrenching a metal pipe from the wall which releases a blast of steam as he does. Killing Bennett by throwing the sharp metal pipe into his chest, he coolly signs off with the above line.
“Say hello to my little friend.”
Scarface (1983)
Over the years there have been some great films on the big screen and director Brian de Palma has been a big part of that. Al Pacino has worked with the iconic director on some of the best Brian De Palma movies including Carlito’s Way (1993) and Scarface (1983). With the lead actor and director teaming up for another crime story, Scarface is one of De Palma’s best known works and features Pacino as Tony Montana, working his way up the Miami drug trade to become a big drug lord.
The film steadily builds towards a final showdown between Montana and an army of enemies. This eventually sees Montana stride out to confront the baddies clutching a Colt AR-15 assault rifle with an M203 grenade launcher. Uttering the immortal line “Say hello to my little friend”, he uses the weapon to go down in a blaze of glory. The character and the line have become among some of the most memorable in film history. One of the other most iconic parts that Pacino has played in film include Michael Corleone in the hugely successful The Godfather trilogy.
“Welcome to the party pal!”
Die Hard (1988)
In his career, Bruce Willis has been known for playing some of the most badass movie characters. One of the characters who is top of the list of course is John McClane from the Die Hard film franchise. What could be more impressive than taking on a group of armed robbers all by himself? Released in the 1980s, it was a big hit which saw tough cop John McClain in Die Hard visiting his wife in LA for Christmas, only to end up taking on a group of European terrorists who have taken over the towering office building she works at.
While there is one famous expletive-laden line that stands out, “Welcome to the party pal!” is another iconic statement uttered by McClain during the movie. He says this after hurling a dead terrorist out of an upper storey window and onto a police car below, in order to grab officers’ attention. The film is also notable for its use of guns – not only for the Beretta 92F McClain is often seen throughout but also for the submachine guns used by the bad guys.
