Genesis Boron 500 XXL RGB Mouse Mat Review

A Mouse Mat is something all of us PC gamers need when using a mouse, some mouse mats use a hard surface some use a cloth surface, but some go a little further and have added RGB lighting.

These sort of mouse mats have come from the likes of Razer, Corsair, Steelseries and many others, but I very much doubt you have heard of a company called ‘Genesis‘ this is where we got this mouse mat from.

Well if not here is a short break down all about them;

So in this review, I am taking a look at the new Genesis Boron 500 XXL RGB Mouse Mat, a mouse mat that will allow you to place your keyboard and mouse comfortably on top and have lighting all around your devices.

So first of Sales

It is not that hard to guess what this is if you were heading to a superstore to purchase a mouse mat for yourself. The name of the product is clear on the front, even using a colour variation for the RGB part. Then you have a full view of the mouse mat, its design on the front, where the RBG lighting has been implemented and a little bit of back.

If you turn the package around to one of the sides, you get the mouse mats size which is 800mm x 300mm and some key features which include the following;

• 11-mode Backlight
• Mode Switch
• Cable Management
• Anti-Slip Rubber Base
• Soft Speed Surface

The 11-Mode Backlight describes the colours and animations available which you circle through using the mode switch, I did a video to showcase this for you.

There is no additional software required, so no more bloatware added to your PC start Process, which will make some people happy, but you can not please everyone as I know many love software to create there own RBG lighting effects.

On the other side of the box, features include;

• Smooth Cloth Surface
• LED Backlight
• Stable Rubber Base
• Edge Protection

Now the only feature you might not understand here is Edge Protection, this is simple to explain. This is simply the way Genesis has crafted the edging of the mouse mat to prevent fraying during those intense gaming sessions and will allow the mouse mat to last longer.

Then we have the Smooth Cloth Surface along with another term used Soft Speed Surface, what Genesis is simply saying here is the surface they have chosen to use for the mouse mat allows for high precision of motion tracking with all types of mouse sensors along with a perfect glide without any hindrance.

Moving around to the back of the box you have a product description along with some product specifications which include some extras that I have not been mentioned which include the length of cable which is 1.8m, and the interface which is anything above USB 2.0.

When opened up the mouse mat is wrapped up nicely along with a set of stickers and the cable.

WoW, what more do you want to know about the mouse mat, well here is one thing, for the price you are paying which is around €25.00 around £22.00, compared to the Razer Goliathus Extended Chroma which is around £59.99 is a bloody bargain and it is just as good. The smooth speed cloth surface feels good, and my Razer Trinty Mouse glides really well across it, I even tested the edging and I could not get it to fray.

The RGB Lighting on offer is just enough for any gamer, that does not have the time or wants the opportunity to create there own custom light show, as the mouse has no software. Everything is controlled via the small button on the top left-hand corner. There is also cable management for something, unsure what though, maybe a mouse cable, I do not use this as my mouse uses a mouse Bungie.

The design on the mouse mat is really nice, even though for most of the time it will be covered by your keyboard and mouse, but it does give them mouse some distinction. The rubber underside really does help the mouse mat grip to any surface, does still move a little bit but only when I pushed on the edge, did not move in general gaming use.

So what do I think of the mouse mat altogether, I can not complain, it does everything on the box, comes at a great price and offers a lot for that price.
