The full gaming setup is never complete until you have the perfect desk for everything to sit on, my previous desk to the Holm 300 was just your basic desk from Ikea and did the job but, I wanted that little bit extra and that’s what the Holm 300 offers. The Genesis company do an amazing range when it comes to their gaming equipment. If you have been following my last few reviews you will see that the majority of my set up is now Genesis products and I couldn’t be happier with it. It might sound like I’m selling out but this isn’t the case I assure you. It was just a long-overdue upgraded that Genesis, luckily, had everything that I wanted and needed to feel complete with my PC gaming setup.
First Impressions
The box it came in was a decent size and intact which was good as it meant there was likely to be no damage to the desk during transit. With the help of the other-half’s sister, we were able to get the desk up and running in no time. We recorded a time-lapse of us putting the desk together so that you can see just how simple it is to assemble, we made quick work of it and I apologise in advance for the cheeky pant shots in the time-lapse, I wasn’t fully aware where my other half was so I kept getting in the way. However sadly while building the desk we realised that an important part of the desk was missing and we couldn’t test this part out. The missing part was the Monitor Shelf which I was looking forward to using as I would imagine this would free up a lot more space on the desk for other things. It was reported to the people at Genesis though sadly I am still waiting upon this part. This made me sad as I was hoping to provide a full review of the whole desk for you guys but in all honesty, I’ll leave that to the video coverage when it arrives and I have set it all up.
Straight away I fell in love with all the add-ons that the Holm 300 came with, the cup holders, amazing, Headphone holder, absolutely and the list goes on. The ones that I’m most happy with are the USB hub and the wireless charging, these come in handy so much while I’m using my desk as I can charge my phone from the desk without having cables everywhere and I can also plug in the numerous accessories that I have into the USB hub and still have others to spare. I feel spoiled with the Holm 300 desk, it feels like the inceptor gadget of desks, you can be like go, go gadget controller holders and there they are snug at the back right of the desk. It would be the perfect desk for any streamer or influencer as it offers everything you would need in one location without having a mountain of clutter and cables going everywhere. Though saying that even with the pictures I show you can see that it still all looks a bit crowded but this is only temporary until I get another unit for my consoles.
Is the Holm 300 RGB the desk for me?
After using the Holm 300 for a few days I have mixed opinions on it, yeah, it’s cool having all the add-ons but when you see the asking price you start asking yourself is it worth it? You can buy it off eBay for £302 which is a lot of money if you ask me. I struggled to find anywhere in the UK where you can pick one of these up and like most Genesis stuff you have to dig around online to find a seller and if you do there is the risk of a big delivery charge on top. Hopefully, in the future, this will change and Genesis can open up somewhere or get partners in the UK that sell their stuff but for now, sadly we can only get them from certain places. I find the steel legs to be really sturdy and not too bulky and the MDF top has a nice feel to it. If you don’t have some sort of support though it can get uncomfortable on the wrist if you are using the desk for long periods of time so a nice mouse pad would fix this issue. The RGB lights are fantastic on the desk but I would have liked them to be a bit brighter, you get a variety of different modes and you can change the speed on which the lights flash, when sitting in a dark room you get the full effects of the desks RGB but if you have a big monitor or have the TV on at the same time these masks the colourful display and make them pointless. I’m torn between whether this desk would match up against a standard office desk that is bigger and can accommodate more, yeah, it’s nice having all the little features but seeing as you can get a nice L shaped desk for half the money and can probably customise that to your liking it makes me think whether investing in the Holm 300 is worth it.
It probably isn’t as expensive as other branded gaming desks but it all depends on what you’re after I suppose. The Holm 300 RGB is a tad bit smaller than my last desk and at times you can feel it, for example, I keep knocking my legs against the document shelf under the desk which hurts quite a bit, yeah you could argue that it can be removed but you would still want that for storage. I would have liked it to maybe be in a different place and a bit bigger as your standard controllers can’t fit under there, it would have been nicer if it didn’t have gaps in it and was a solid panel because when you put cables and headphones in them, they just fall out. The wireless charge and USB hub kind of get lost behind the monitor at the minute on my desk due to the missing monitor shelf, I’m hoping that when this shows up it might give me better access to them. It isn’t easy trying to place my phone under my monitor onto the wireless charger and trying to gain access to the controllers at the back is again quite difficult. I’m happy with the cup holder and like the fact that I have somewhere to put my drinks without risk of spilling everywhere and the headphone holder is brilliant, these are very easily accessible and make for a quick drink break as well as reaching for my headphones.

Conclusion
The Holm 300 RGB Gaming Desk is nice but has its flaws. I’m still waiting on one of the parts that could make my whole experience with this desk change and I will gladly update this if that is the case but having what feels like little room compared to my last desk that wasn’t a gaming one, I do feel like I have gone backwards. However, the Holm 300 quickly starts getting more points when you add in the cup holder, headphone holder, USB hub and wireless charging. None of my previous desks has ever come this fully equipped and I don’t think I could go back. It’s like the swiss army knife of desks and I dig that. The cable management bracket is so helpful for making the desk look less clutters and cable management is so much easier as everything can just tuck down the back. Then you add in the RGB lighting and your feel like you’re on to a winner, this desk has me in a tug of war with myself because on one hand you can be like look at all this cool stuff but then you are like “wait how much you want for it?”. To be honest it might be reasonably priced compared to other gaming desk brands but with the Holm 300, I think it all falls down to what you want out of a desk. If you want cool add-ons, a light show in the evening while gaming and the simple but effective design then this is the desk for you, whereas if you want a desk that can accommodate quite a bit, can be customised to your liking and maybe a certain design then the Holm 300 isn’t for you. Don’t get me wrong I do like the desk but I feel like I will apricate it more the more I use it and for those reasons, I’m going to have to give the Genesis Holm 300 RGB Gaming Desk a score of 6 out of 10.
