Pension comparison website money.co.uk are looking for someone to briefly come out of retirement and become their official retirement tester, to lead on testing hobbies that fellow retirees might otherwise not give a go.
Inspired by the fact that pensioners are stereotypically thought to enjoy hobbies such as bowls, knitting or putting together a jigsaw puzzle, the new role is seeking to discover whether pastimes enjoyed by the youth of today could also suit those of an older age.
The successful applicant will be required to rate their enjoyment of using the likes of TikTok and Instagram, in addition to playing video games such as Fortnite and watching Netflix series that are popular with a younger crowd, including Squid Game and Bridgeton. To add yet another youthful aspect to the duties of the role, the retirement tester will also be required to vlog about the experience.
The money.co.uk CE-OAP: Key Role Responsibilities
- TikTok: Watch an hour a day for one week and create three posts
- Instagram: Create an account and share daily images of your favourite meals
- Netflix: Watch an episode a day of a selection of popular shows (e.g. Bridgerton, Squid Game, You or Selling Sunset)
- Video Games: Play a video game each day (games will include Fortnite and FIFA)
- Vlog: To sample the life of a YouTuber, the CE-OAP will record their experiences and thoughts on each task, to create a vlog about their findings
To be completed over the course of two weeks, the lucky applicant will be paid £500 for their time and will be supplied with a games console and Netflix subscription to make the duties of the role possible. Any applicant must be retired to be considered for the short-term job, with the role able to be completed alongside their other hobbies and social obligations.
James Andrews, Personal Finance Expert at money.co.uk commented: “A New Year can signal a time many of us look to take up a new hobby or learn a new skill, but stereotypes have seemed to stay the same for what people of pensioner age can and can’t enjoy.
With this new role, we want to show that those stereotypes no longer apply and that you’re only as old as you feel. Whether it’s creating a TikTok account or diving into the latest video games, we hope we provide some inspiration for pastimes pensioners could pick up in 2022, and look forward to finding our CE-OAP to rank these hobbies from best to worst”.
Applications close at 11.59pm on Friday 7th January 2022 and can be sent via the money.co.uk website here: https://www.money.co.uk/pensions/retirement-tester
