The wait is over! The organisers of the 42nd Golden Joystick Awards have just dropped the shortlist for this year’s epic gaming celebration. Voting is now LIVE and will stay open until Friday, November 1, 2024, at 4pm PDT / 7pm EDT / 11pm GMT. This legendary awards show, the world’s longest-running public-voted gaming event, draws millions of votes from fans worldwide. The winners will be announced at a star-studded ceremony in central London on November 21, 2024, with the event streamed globally.
This year, there are 19 categories to cast your votes in, including Console Game of the Year, PC Game of the Year, and Best Multiplayer Game. Leading the pack with five nominations each are Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, followed closely by Helldivers 2 with four nods, and Balatro, a roguelike deck builder, with three. Fan favourites like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree also make the cut, alongside indie darlings like Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, UFO 50, and Animal Well.
New Categories and Surprises to the Golden Joystick Awards 2024
Exciting changes this year include brand-new categories like Best Soundtrack and Best Audio Design, which now replace the former Best Audio award. The popular Still Playing Award has been split into separate Mobile and Console & PC categories, and a fresh Best Indie Game – Self Published award has been added to celebrate more indie talent.
Fans should keep an eye out for the Ultimate Game of the Year shortlist, which will be announced on Monday, November 4, with voting for that prestigious award opening the same day.
