We’re back with another DLC pack for the beloved Jurassic World Evolution 2, it’s another Dominion-inspired pack, which honestly, I didn’t see coming. It’s set before the events of the recent Jurassic World Film Dominion. This time we head to the Mediterranean to manage multiple facilities across three exciting locations. Not only do we have more Dinosaurs to add to our collection in this DLC pack we also get another campaign mission which is fantastic because who doesn’t love more Jurassic World Evo 2 content? I have covered most of the previous packs and everyone I have enjoyed, so can the Dominion Malta Expansion live up to its predecessors?
Let’s just start by saying that I wasn’t a huge fan of the Dominion film, out of the Jurassic World franchise the only one I truly enjoyed was Jurassic World. Granted that Fallen Kingdom and Dominion gave us some new dinosaurs and looked amazing on screen the stories just fell short for me. That’s why it’s nice to see these dinosaurs fleshed out more in Jurassic World Evolution 2 so you get to appreciate them more. One of these was the Atrociraptor, I was looking forward to seeing these raptors on screen as the previous raptor squad kicked butt in the Jurassic World film. With Dominion we got a similar hype with the new kids on the block, these being Ghost, Red, Tiger, and Panthera but sadly they literally got a few minutes of screen time and weren’t even worth the hype they got, they literally had a glorified chase scene through a city and that was it. This is one of the reasons I was looking forward to playing this DLC because I will get the chance to see them and watch them in my parks.
So, what else is available in this pack dinosaur wise you might ask, you get:
- Atrociraptor (with the dominion squad skins)
- Lystrosaurus
- Oviraptor
- Moros Intrepidus
There are also the added variants for the Iguanodon, Dimorphodon, and Allosaurus from the films and we get a Carnotaurus skin that is heavily scarred. It reminds me of the Carno from Camp Cretaceous. For me, the dinosaurs and skins are always the selling point for new DLC with Evo 2 and I think we have got some amazing addition with this pack. I love how cute the Lystrosaurus and Moros Intrepidus are, they are so small and adorable. The Oviraptor’s feathers are amazing and it gives you an idea of what dinosaurs could have looked like back in the day. The dinosaur’s animations and behaviours are always a wonder to watch and seeing groups of Lystrosaurus playing are super cute and watching the Atrociraptor pack hunt is spectacular.
Though if the dinosaurs weren’t enough for you, we also get new locations and buildings that are inspired by the film. These include but aren’t limited to a Viewing Galley, Hotel, and Acquisition Centre. One of the locations also has a massive natural lagoon which is incredible. It literally sits in the ocean and is borderline basically in the ocean, you wouldn’t want one of these dinosaurs getting loose. All these buildings are available to use in the sandbox mode and aren’t limited to the Malta locations.
The new campaign experience gives us a bit of an insight into events leading up to Jurassic World Dominion. You get to take on a new enterprise in Malta alongside returning characters like Cabot Finch. There are even characters from Dominion showing up and having input into the story of the campaign, to name a few, you will see Kayla Watts, Soyona Santos and Lewis Dodgson. You will then be tasked with setting up three parks across the new locations and making sure they run successfully. You will also get to look at the dinosaur exchange where you are able to acquire new species, eggs and genome data. Do you have what it takes to work with both the Underground and the Authorities to build trust and get bonuses from them? I’m all for more Jurassic World Evolution 2 but I feel like there are only so many times I can be tasked with building a park and making sure it succeeds, though it is a nice way to get to see everything that is on offer in this pack. It does take some time to complete as well which is good, it isn’t like a 2-hour expansion that you can complete in one sitting it does add hours to the game time which is great for us dinosaur fans.
Conclusion
The new Dominion Malta pack is out now for £15.99 which is the same as the price for the previous expansion which was the Dominion Biosyn pack. The pack again is worth the money as it comes with a new campaign mission, three new locations and a building but above all, we finally get the Atrociraptors in the game. Frontier Developments are doing a cracking job at keeping this game alive and offering paid and free content for its players. Personally, I will be buying all the DLC packs just so I can get the dinosaurs because that is solely the main reason, I love playing this game. It will be interesting to see where they will go now seeing as Camp Cretaceous and Dominion packs have all come out. I would honestly love if they started releasing hybrid packs and take inspiration from Jurassic World Alive and give us hybrid dinosaurs. We have a few already with the likes of the Indominus Rex, Indoraptor and Scorpios Rex but it would be awesome to have an Allosinosaurus, Alloraptor or Utasinoraptor. Failing that it would be cool to see prehistoric creatures like the woolly mammoth, woolly Rhino or Titanoboa as these would add so much more to the game. I wouldn’t mind seeing maybe an artic location where the player has to manage a facility and combat snow storms and the cold weather conditions but whatever it is I’m sure I will be covering it. Both Dominion packs are probably the only Dominion-related things I have enjoyed and the Malta pack added to my time in Jurassic World Evolution 2 and for that reason, I’m giving it an 8 out of 10 like the previous Dominion pack.
