Well, what can I say, We’re back for another DLC pack for Jurassic World Evolution 2 this time it’s Jurassic World Evolution 2 Prehistoric Marine Species Pack and this one took me by surprise. I didn’t think the next pack would feature Marine species. In all honestly though the lagoons needed some love given to them so it’s a welcomed addition to get enclosure items as well as four big stars to take centre stage…. I mean the centre lagoon. Maybe it will be the next pack that we will see more Hybrids, cough, cough.
So, you might be wondering whole will be swimming around your oversized fish tanks and I’ll tell you. The featured Species in this pack are:
- Archelon: The Largest turtle ever discovered. Its name means Ruler Turtle and you can see why. It is huge compared to any turtle that is alive today. Its giant flippers allow it to swim fairly fast and its hooked beak is adept at eating fish. You will love seeing this lovable giant swimming around your lagoon and bathing on the new lagoon platform. Which we will cover later on.
- Nothosaurus: This distinctive predator was inspired by Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and roamed the shores of the late Triassic. It looks super scary with its razor-sharp teeth and long head. I wouldn’t want to be taking a swim in the ocean in the late Triassic if I knew this was what I could come face to face with. It uses its webbed feet and tail to make swimming through water look like a piece of cake and will venture onto land to rest. Imagine it like a modern-day sealion but I don’t think the Nothosaurus would do sea life shows like they do at sea world.
- Dunkleosteus: If you have been on this planet long enough you would remember a certain TV series called Walking with Dinosaurs that did a short trilogy series involving Sea Monster and a loveable Nigel Marven. This series was the first time I had heard about the Dunkleosteus and it was like a tank in the ocean. Since then, there have been recent discoveries that have suggested that it looks a different way to what we thought when this series aired but it was still a powerful armoured fish that stalked the open water in the late Devonian period. It had incredibly large jaws that would cause series damage if you found yourself anywhere near them and it was one of the reasons it was a voracious predator. Even if it was attacked by other predators wouldn’t be fazed thanks to its armoured plating.
- Shonisaurus: If you are a fan of the adorable Ichthyosaur then you’ll love its big brother. The Shonisaurs is a graceful giant of the late Triassic period. You wouldn’t think it because of its size but it is surprisingly maneuverable and was known to be a hunter of the deep oceans and due to its sheer size, it was able to hold its own against predators.
The four come with unique interactions and a whole lot of energy that increase the need to put a lagoon into your park. They are a joy to watch and I love getting up close and personal with them using the drone. As mentioned above we also got a new enclosure item that allows the Archelon and Nothosaurus to rest and bath in the sunlight. Your guests will get to view them on land not just in the water.
I thought it was super cute watching the Archelon emerge from the water and scoot onto the platform. The Nothosaurus looks more at home on the platform than the water but that is because it has webbed feet and legs where the other species in the pack have fins and flippers.
Alongside, this DLC pack we got another free update that saw icon film moments make an appearance in the form of an interaction between the Spinosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex. I would be referring to the scene in Jurassic Park 3. There are plenty of little additions that have been added so go out there and see if you can spot them all. I just gave you one so you have a bit of a head start.
Conclusion
For £5.99 I can say that this pack is worth its money. I added four incredible species to your park and offered a new enclosure item that two of the four species interact with. Compared to previous packs this one is simple just new species. If you were hoping for more campaign scenarios you won’t get it in this pack.
Though I’m all for packs that just come with more species as I can spend hours just watching them in sandbox mode and I love everything Prehistoric so keep them coming Frontier. I wonder if this would mean that we could get Wolly Mammoths or Saber Tooths soon, though I think it would be cool if they added the Titan Boa or Giant Scorpions. I think these would look cool in an avery style enclosure or like a reptile house. If not this then maybe some Hybrids.
Come on Frontier, give the players (me) what they want, but as far as the Jurassic World Evolution 2 Prehistoric Marine Species Pack I can say it was a welcomed surprise and one that any sea/lagoon love would want to obtain, and for that reason it is getting a solid score of 8 out of 10.
