Almost a year ago, I reviewed Lumberhill over here at Invision Game Community. Now the game has finally made its way to Nintendo Switch. So does it still hold up as well as its PC counterpart? Well before you can even yell “Timber”, let’s chop right to it, shall we!
If you don’t already know, Lumberhill is a multiplayer-focused wood chopping game that’s very similar to titles such as Overcooked and Overcooked 2. If you want a basic rundown of how the game works, check out my original review right here. This review is purely for the Nintendo Switch version of the game and I’ll discuss the key aspects that this version brings to the table.
Lumberhill on PC was incredibly fun to play with friends. Being on Nintendo Switch expands the game’s audience to those who have the handheld console. Being able to play a wood chopping “party” game on the go is a bit of a strange choice but hey, if you want to play in handheld mode, you can. Lumberhill on Nintendo Switch runs without any frame rate drops or lag and overall, it’s a solid port.
Players will have to have access to an active Nintendo Switch Online account if they want to play the game multiplayer with other players over the internet. If however, you’re fine with local co-op, you can do this just fine.
The game features both local and online co-op as well as player-versus-player modes where you can literally throw each other off cliffs for maximum fun. The controls on Nintendo Switch are also rock solid with the game being responsive and hitch-free.
Lumberhill is at its core, an extremely fun party multiplayer game. Playing the game co-operatively is the best part about it though because the later levels become extremely chaotic. Trying to work together with friends or family tends in a multiplayer game yields mixed results for different people but I definitely had fun playing this game. There’s just so much wholesome enjoyment to be had while chopping wood and throwing sheep across the levels to your friend waiting on the other side to deliver them to a barn.
Lumberhill on Nintendo Switch is definitely worth picking up if you haven’t already played the game on Steam. Being able to play it on the go is a plus but seeing as you might be playing solo when doing this, it might end up being a slight bit lacklustre. This is a game that is best enjoyed by friends or family. Unfortunately, there isn’t a demo available so you can’t really give it a try first to see if you’ll like it but if you’ve played party games with a focus on co-op elements before, this is a fun game that will keep you busy for a good few hours as you work through the levels. It’s every bit as great on Nintendo Switch as it is on PC albeit at the cost of having to have a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription if you want to play the game online.
