Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection Trailer
A New Story Set Centuries After the Rift War
Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection takes place roughly two centuries after the events of the legendary Rift War. The world has changed dramatically since then, with the kingdoms of Azuria and Vermeil now standing on opposing sides of an uneasy divide.
The story begins with a mysterious event — twin Rathalos hatching from a single egg. The unusual phenomenon sparks concern across the region and sets the stage for a tale filled with political tension, dangerous monsters, and the threat of ecological collapse.
At the same time, a strange environmental threat known as the Crystal Encroachment begins spreading across the land. This phenomenon disrupts habitats and ecosystems, causing monsters to behave unpredictably and putting entire regions at risk.
Players step into the role of the Prince or Princess of Azuria and take command of the Ranger Squad. Their mission is to protect endangered monster eggs, stabilise ecosystems, and uncover the truth behind the growing crisis.
Throughout the journey, players will encounter a diverse cast of companions who help drive the story forward. These include:
- Gaul – the dependable vice-captain of the Ranger Squad
- Ogden – a knowledgeable monster expert
- Kora – co-founder of the Rangers
- Simon – the protagonist’s loyal best friend
- Thea – a newly recruited Ranger
- Eleanor – the Princess of Vermeil
Each character plays a role in the unfolding narrative as tensions rise between kingdoms and the mystery behind the Crystal Encroachment deepens.
Turn-Based Battles Return with New Tactical Systems
Combat in Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection continues the series’ strategic turn-based formula. Battles revolve around a familiar rock-paper-scissors style mechanic where three attack types — Power, Speed, and Technical — counter one another.
Success in battle depends on predicting enemy actions and selecting the correct attack type to gain the advantage. When used effectively, these mechanics allow players to build powerful chains of attacks alongside their Monsties.
This time around, the system expands with the introduction of a new feature called Synchro Rush. This powerful mechanic allows the entire party to combine their strength for a coordinated, high-damage attack that can turn the tide of battle against particularly dangerous monsters.
The addition encourages teamwork and strategic planning, rewarding players who build strong bonds with their companions and Monsties.
A Living Ecosystem That Reacts to Player Choices
One of the biggest new gameplay features in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is the Habitat Restoration system.
Instead of simply collecting monsters, players can now release Monsties back into the wild to help restore damaged ecosystems. Doing so improves an area’s Ecosystem Rank, which directly affects several gameplay systems.
As regions recover, players may discover:
- New monster traits
- Rare egg variations
- Different elemental attributes
- Improved monster habitats
This system introduces a dynamic environmental layer to the RPG formula, allowing players to shape the world around them as they progress through the story.
Some extremely rare monsters can only be discovered through these evolving ecosystems, encouraging exploration and experimentation across the game’s regions.
Explore the World Using Monstie Riding Abilities
Exploration is another major focus in Monster Hunter Stories 3. Riders can travel across the game’s large environments using special Riding Actions provided by their Monsties.
These abilities allow players to:
- Climb cliffs and vertical terrain
- Glide across large distances
- Fly to hard-to-reach areas
- Discover hidden items and secrets
The three-dimensional environments encourage players to experiment with different Monsties to reach new areas and uncover hidden rewards scattered across the world.
Launch DLC and Future Content
Players jumping in at launch will also gain access to free day-one DLC content.
This includes:
- The Gold Circlet accessory
- Simon’s Wind Wyvern’s Friend layered armour
Capcom has also confirmed additional downloadable content planned for later in the year. One of the first major updates will be the Additional Side Story: Rudy, which is currently scheduled to release in Autumn 2026.
Players who tried the demo version of the game will also be pleased to know that their progress can be transferred directly into the full release.
Multiple Editions Available at Launch
Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection is available in several editions for players looking to expand their experience.
The Deluxe Edition includes the Deluxe Kit, which features cosmetic content alongside the upcoming Additional Side Story: Rudy.
The Premium Deluxe Edition goes a step further by adding an extra cosmetic DLC pack containing new hairstyles, outfits, and layered armour for companions.
Players can purchase the game digitally through the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam, while physical editions are also available for console players.
With its blend of strategic combat, monster collecting, and story-driven adventure, Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection looks set to give fans of the RPG spin-off plenty to explore as they begin their journey through this evolving world.
