Travis Touchdown is back in the latest instalment of the wild and wacky No More Heroes series, and this time he’s wilder and wackier than ever. When a race of elite fighting aliens arrives on Earth to take control, it’s up to Travis to use his fists and feet to send them on a quick trip back home, bruised and fat-lipped. And in typical No More Heroes style, he’s got to do it all while chasing that coveted top rank as the world’s strongest superhero in the process.
To help you hit the ground running in Travis Touchdown’s latest adventure, here are all of the vital No More Heroes 3 Tips & Tricks you absolutely have to know.
Choose Your Difficulty with Care
When you first create a new No More Heroes 3 save, you’re asked to pick from three different difficulty levels: Berry Sweet, Bitter and Spicy. Berry Sweet is the equivalent of Easy mode, Bitter is the normal difficulty, and Spicy is the game’s hard mode.
Unlike many modern action video games, the difficulty level you choose is permanent. The game can be tortuously hard at the higher levels, so unless you’re a No More Heroes master with total confidence in their skills, we’d recommend you stick with Berry Sweet or Bitter for your first playthrough.
If you’re a true glutton for punishment, beat the game once at any difficulty level to unlock the game’s hardest difficulty level, Carolina Reaper.
Master the Perfect Dodge
No More Heroes 3 provides a beat-’em-up experience that’s much more varied than its predecessors, thanks in large part to the diverse enemy types, each with their own unique abilities and patterns. Because of this, the road to becoming the world’s top superhero depends on you fighting smarter, not just harder.
Travis has two important defensive abilities: Block and Dodge.
Blocking will protect Travis from physical hits at the cost of some of your Beam Katana’s Power Charge. Blocking is useful in a pinch, but it reduces your potential for damage output at the same time — too inefficient for someone chasing the top dog superhero title.
The real key to mastering combat in No More Heroes 3 lies in nailing down the Perfect Dodge. A regular press of the Dodge key will throw Travis out of harm’s way. But if you wait to press Dodge until a split second before an enemy’s strike lands, you’ll not only avoid getting hit, but the game will briefly enter slow motion.
You can use the slow-motion after a Perfect Dodge to really dish out the pain or to distance yourself from the action and charge your Beam Katana’s charge. Perfect Dodges can be followed up with combos, wrestling moves, and Death Skills. You can also take the time to reposition yourself to exploit positional weaknesses in certain enemies.
777 Is Your Lucky Number
Every time you defeat an enemy, a slots mini-game overlay will appear on the screen. If you can get three matching images, Travis will receive temporary combat enhancements.
777 is your lucky number. If you manage to pull a “7” in each of the three slots, Travis will enter Full Armor Mode, which transforms him into a missile-firing man-machine.
If you don’t need Full Armor Mode right away, you can keep it stored for later. We’d recommend pulling it out for boss battles or particularly tough fights.
Farm That UtopiCoin (Uc)!
Money is a big deal in the world of No More Heroes. You not only use UtopiCoin (Uc) to purchase Death Glove Chips and Sushi, you also need Uc to progress in the story.
Travis must spend a large amount of Uc in order to register for the Rank Assassin boss battle at the end of each episode. The higher your rank, the more expensive the registration fee; at the highest ranks, you can end up needing a lot of money just to get into an episode’s final fight (and that’s not even accounting for the cost of upgrades!).
The easiest way to collect the money you’ll need to sign up for and defeat the Rank Assassin battles is by completing all the possible missions and side-quests in an episode.
Go for as high a rank as you can in each mission, as the higher ranks reward you with more money. Your rank is determined by how quickly you complete a mission, how much damage you took, and how often you use your Death Glove skills (the more, the better).
One of the best mission types for this is the Coast Guard Volunteer mission. This mission involves using the Switch controls to shoot at and destroy incoming alligators before they reach you. Not only is it quick and easy, but it’s also infinitely repeatable. Just leave the area and come back to reset the mission.
Another quick way to collect fat stacks of Uc is by selling the Junk earned from defeating enemies to Beef Head. Beef Head can be found in the Santa Destroy area of the map. You’ll need Junk to craft Death Glove Chips, so don’t sell anything unless you’re certain you won’t be needing it!
Stock Up On Sushi!
If you’re a halfway decent player, you can glide through most action games without worrying about health potions. No More Heroes 3 isn’t one of those games.
You’ll almost certainly want to spend some time in the Sushi Shops you find scattered throughout No More Heroes 3. They do more than patch up bruises and bites, some Sushi can enhance your fighting abilities and even offer temporary health boosts in combat.
There will be various types of Sushi sold by Sushi Shops scattered in various regions, ranging from very important Health enhancers to status enhancers during the fight and some can be eaten at the shop. It’s very important to bring at least 5x health-boosting Sushi during the fight but as we suggested before, don’t buy too much, save yourself unless you are really grinding and have a lot of money.
To eat Sushi during the fight can be done with the directional buttons; Left-Right to select Sushi Type and Up to eat it, the sushi type indicator can be seen in the middle-bottom layer marked sushi-shaped pixels.
That’s all the tips and tricks we have for you this time, have fun becoming the number one superhero while beating some wacky aliens in the process! If you haven’t gotten the game yet, you can easily head over to OffGamers and fix that mistake right now. We’ve also got some Discord Nitro cards for you if you want to complain about their insane villains to your friends right here.
